Set up your access to the web application

First select Student from the dropdown menu on the Select Your Access Type screen. Then fill in the form and click Submit. You’ll need the key from your teacher or AP coordinator to complete this step.

Access your portfolio

Once you’ve set up access, you can sign in to the digital submission web application to work on your portfolio. In the web application, click My Portfolio in the top right menu.

Complete the Sustained Investigation section

The Portfolio Progress Navigation menu (the numbered steps from “Introduction” to “Print”) lets you choose the section you’d like to work on. You can delete, add, or rearrange images anytime. When you’re working in the Sustained Investigation section, click the Written Evidence tab to enter (or to view or edit) your written evidence.

Complete the Selected Works section

Click on Selected Works in the Portfolio Progress Navigation menu to work on your Selected Works section.

Know the deadline for sending your final portfolio to your teacher

Ask your teacher what the deadline is for submitting your portfolio. Teachers set their own portfolio deadlines. The AP coordinator is then responsible for submitting portfolios to the AP Program by the first week in May.

Check the top left of the page to see the status of your portfolio

This area tells you which portfolio you're working on (for example, AP 2-D Art and Design) and its status in the digital submission process (for example, "Not Started" or "In Progress").

Select a portfolio section

Select the section (Sustained Investigation or Selected Works) you'd like to work on from the Portfolio Progress Navigation menu (the numbered steps from "Introduction" to "Print").

When you're ready, click "Forward Portfolio."

When your submission is complete, and you’re ready to submit it to your teacher, click Forward Portfolio.

Overlap Among Portfolio Types

There is possible overlap among the three portfolio types. For instance, a student whose work focuses on 3-D art and design could submit, in their AP 3-D Art and Design Portfolio Exam, drawings and/or 2-D compositions associated with their 3-D work.

Sign In to the Application

After you’ve completed all work on your digital portfolio for the Sustained Investigation and Selected Works sections, your next step is to formally forward your portfolio to your AP Art and Design teacher (or to the AP coordinator if you’re not working with a teacher).

Review your portfolio

View the Review Portfolio page to ensure everything has a status of Complete. If it doesn't, you'll need to go back and update anything that's marked as incomplete.

Enter your AP ID

On the Review Portfolio page, you'll need to enter your AP ID. If you don't remember your AP ID, you can find it on My AP.

Continue through the acknowledgements pages

Continue through a series of pages that ask for acknowledgements, confirmations, and permissions. You will:

Click "Forward Portfolio."

After you have confirmed the statements on the final page by clicking their checkboxes, click Forward Portfolio.

Make sure your portfolio was sent

Look for the final confirmation screen, which lets you know that your portfolio has been forwarded to your teacher, and check that your portfolio's status now says Forwarded to Teacher.

How to open a student portfolio?

To open a student’s portfolio, click the student's name on the Student Portfolio List. Once in the portfolio, click the section links—Sustained Investigation or Selected Works—on the Portfolio Progress Navigation menu, which is in the green shaded area at the top of the screen.

How to view student evidence in a sustained investigation?

In the Sustained Investigation section, you’ll be able to view the student’s images, responses for materials and processes, and written evidence. Click on the Images or Written Evidence tabs to review specific areas within that section. When you’re in the Images tab, click on a thumbnail to view the full-sized image.
