Online course enrollment is restricted for F-1 and J-1 students. Please read below for full details. J-1 and ESL students must enroll in traditional on-campus courses to fulfill their minimum credit load for all required semesters.
F-1 students can count 3 online credits toward their full-time enrollment requirements during fall and spring semesters. Graduate students must enroll in 8 credits, and 5 of these credits must be in traditional, on-campus courses. Undergraduate students must enroll in 12 credits, and 9 of these credits must be in traditional on-campus courses.

CSUSM staff are unable to remove any CSU Fully Online courses. After you submit a drop request and the host campus confirms, the CM 100 placeholder will be removed from your schedule. The best browser to use with the EMS Portal is Google Chrome and Safari on a Mac—you must allow for pop-ups. If you are using FireFox, Opera or Microsoft Edge—there are known issues with the EMS Portal not functioning well with these browsers.
The EMS Portal does not work well with the browsers on Android phones and tablets and Apple iPhones. It will work with certain models of iPads which are updated to iOS 11 or higher. There are also known issues with Chromebooks.

If an F-1 or J-1 student needs only one course to complete the program of study and the student intends to remain in the US, that course must be in a traditional on-campus format. This will allow the student to maintain their visa status and be eligible to apply for post-degree work opportunities if they choose to do so.
If an F-1 or J-1 student wants to be eligible to participate in post-degree completion work opportunities such as Optional Practical Training (F-1) or Academic Training (J-1), the student’s final degree requirements must be taken in a traditional on-campus course.

Students are responsible for meeting the prerequisites for CSU Fully Online courses and should be prepared to provide documentation to the host campus as evidence of completing the prerequisites.
The program is aimed to facilitate access to high demand, high success courses as part of the continuing effort to provide students with access to the courses needed to expedite graduation.
View current course offerings on the California State University website. Access to enroll in CSU Fully Online for Fall 2021 begins on June 1, 2021 for CSUSM students, and is available through September 3, 2021.
To participate, undergraduates must have: Completed at least one term at Cal State San Marcos and earned at least 12 units as a matriculated student*. Attained a grade point average of 2.0 in all work completed at Cal State San Marcos and is in good standing.
Courses taken merely to earn units (free electives) to help students meet the minimum overall unit requirement: There should be courses that you have not completed successfully already.
Courses taken through CSU Fully Online will transfer as at least elective credit. Consult the Transfer Evaluation System (TES) website to find out what requirement the course will meet. If courses do not transfer as expected, students should work with the academic advisor for the classes to meet specific major, minor, lower or upper division general education or graduation requirements at Cal State San Marcos.
