How to enable self-enrolment in Moodle
Once you have prepared your Moodle course, you need to give the access to students. You can enroll the students in your Moodle course manually one by one but it is a tedious and time taking task especially when you have to enroll multiple users. If you have a few students to enroll, then you can use Manual enrollment method.

Check if the self enrollment is enabled for your course. You can do so by navigating to Nav Drawer > Participants > Gear Icon > Enrollment Methods. Make sure that the ‘Eye-Icon’ is open for self enrollment.
If you wish only a certain group of users to self enrol (and not anyone) then you can set an enrolment key which you then tell them to use when they access the self-enrolment screen. See section 1 of enrolment key for how to do this.

Hi Philip, Has the user self registered and self enrolled (two different process)? Can the user go to the Site home and see the course? Can he/she enrol there? Or is there a message the user can't enrol? The self enrolment courses only show up on the Course overview block (and in the nav bar under My courses) after a user has successfully enrolled in it.
May be the solution will be to set Site as a homepage instead of Dashboard?
Yes, I think we could do that, but was trying to avoid that as when that is set, it changes the side navigation which is not ideal.
The behaviour you describe for the Course Overview block is new to me: AFAIK, this block only displays those courses a user has enrolled in. You may have set up the site home page ( https://moodle.yoururl.xyz/?redirect=0) to use the List all courses component instead.
Just to jump in here since I was coming to ask the same question... Philip's issue is exactly the same as what I'm running into. In our case, we're using Moodle in a nonprofit environment for training for employees/volunteers as well as outside constituents. I'd really like to be able to offer a "catalog" of courses that users can browse.
It's easy to get to the dashboard since it's part of the user menu. It's not as easy however to get to the Moodle Front page. I'd suggest letting users go for their dashboards using the user menu and have front page as the default landing page.
