TCOLE will not accept training that is not thru one of our providers. Licensed Peace Officers (includes County Sheriffs and Deputy Constables): Current 2-year Training Unit: (09/01/21 - 08/31/23):  A minimum of 40 hours of training to include the current Legislative Update course #3187.

TCOLE has two categories to report training: General Courses and Specific Courses. Is your Department conducting a course for continuing education hours and you want to get the word out? Just a reminder: A course cannot be advertised as “TCOLE approved” or “TCOLE certified.” Instead simply say that this course is eligible for TCOLE credit hours.

These providers offer the basic licensing courses. They also have the ability to offer additional courses that meet the needs of the area served, however some of these departmental academies serve only their agency

Contract Training Providers

These providers offer training for peace officers, jailers, and telecommunicators to maintain their licenses or acquire certificates. They also have the ability to offer additional courses that meet the needs of the area served.

Academic Alternative Programs

These providers are located on college or university campuses and offer an alternative to the basic peace officer licensing course (at least an Associate’s Degree is required to be eligible for licensure).

Provider Contract Status

These are programs that are considered at risk, or have contracts that are reaching expiration or have expired.
