In the Endless Challenge, the player goes through a series of randomly selected courses of a certain difficulty with a given number of lives and the goal is to beat as many courses as possible.
When a player dies in Multiplayer Co-op, they have an option to start from the start of the course, the most recent checkpoint, or any other players' position. (If the player you started from moves, your starting point won't.)
