Create a new empty course
Getting started First, you will need to Log into Moodle and be enrolledin a course in a Teacher's role. We have some tips if you are having trouble logging in. We will have lots of embedded links in the text and hope you follow them to learn more. The initial course homepageis broken down into Course sections.
A few weeks after the end of the semester, Moodle courses are automatically hidden from students. Instructors can hide courses that are not ready for use (after the automatic release date), or open courses prior to the beginning of the semester.
The two most common are: Upload an existing course from a different Moodle site. From the left panel (the Navigation drawer) click Site administration Click Proceed to course content to add your teaching materials. If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device.
Your first task is to customize the Course settings to your likes and needs. Select the Course Management button (black gear icon , top right) to open the Course Management panel. Once open, click Edit course settings. For details, see Important Settings for your Moodle Course.
To star a course, click the “…” on the course card and choose “Star this course”. You will also find the option to “Remove from view” which will remove the course from your Course overview block (not hide the course from students). Starring courses is a great way to customize your list of courses.

Enrol and enroll have the same meaning, but their use in writing depends on different language communities. Current usage patterns show that the double L spelling dominates in writing. Use enrol, enrolment, and re-enrol for British English spelling, and enroll, enrollment, and re-enroll for American English spelling.
There are several ways you as admin can create a course. The two most common are:
Make sure the course you want to upload (known as a "course backup") has the file ending . mbz.
In the top navigation bar of your course, select the Course Management button (gear icon ) to open the Course Management panel. Once open, select Edit course settings. For details, see Important Settings for your Moodle Course. To work on your course, turn editing on.
To add Resources and Activities to your course, add or remove Blocks, or rearrange items on the course page, in the menu bar to the top of your course page, click Turn editing on (green pencil icon ). Editing icons and links will appear. Edit section names.
Announcements (previously called News forum) Announcements is a special forum that can act as an announcements tool for your Moodle course. It appears by default in the top section of your course and is related to the Latest news block. Only instructors can post to the Announcements and comments are not allowed.
The Groups feature in Moodle allows an instructor to assign students and instructors to one or more groups for either the entire course or for individual activities. Students can be in multiple groups at once, allowing the instructor to change the groups based on the activity. A few important tips for working with groups:
To rearrange blocks, with editing on, use the Move tool (, top right) to drag a block to a new order in the right column. To remove a block from the course, open its Actions menu (gear icon , top right), and from the drop-down menu, select Delete. For more, see Add & Remove Blocks in Moodle.
I'm using SWFObject in my html file to launch my SCORM flash course with 100% width and height. This is great as the course fills the screen when the browser window opens or is resized.
Any luck on this? I need to open my swf videos in full screen pop-up. Please let me know if you have any workaround for this. Thanks in advance.
try entering 100% in the height and width boxes - I have a vague recollection of that working. If not we're planning to re-work the Player UI in Moodle 2.0 - I'll try to remember to make sure that using percentages works.
I have tried so many suggestions from this forum to launch a SCORM module fullscreen (no title bars, menu bars, etc). I changed parameters from 100% to the actual dimensions I need (1280 X 1024), set the course to launch in a new window, etc. No matter what I specify, the window has scrollbars.
Hi Matt, thanks for the input. A few things, we have a course that will be accessed from classroom PC's only and the screen resolution is 1280 X 1024. The stage size in the authoring tool we are using (Lectora) is set at 1280 X 1024 (Launches fine outside of moodle with no scrollbars, title, status, etc).
also - your browser settings may be interfering here - modern browsers allow the user to set whether a JS popup can disable url/statusbar etc - if those browser settings are in place there's not much you can do.
Our programmer got our screen to open full screen by modifying the player.js file. Ours was for a SCORM file. The player.js file is in the mod/scorm directory. This is code we used:
Managing a Moodle course 1 Courses - how to set up your courses. 2 Editing text - how to use the text editor and what the icons mean. 3 Activities - how to involve students actively in their learning. 4 Resources - how to add static materials to your course. 5 Blocks - how to add extra items and information to the sides of your course page. 6 Questions - how to create questions for use in quizzes and Moodle's lesson module 7 Course enrolment - how to give students access to your course. 8 Grouping users - how to put students into groups and why this is useful. 9 Grades - how to use the gradebook, scales and advanced grading methods. 10 Tracking progress - how to control and display progress through a course. 11 Reusing activities - how to copy or recycle elements of your course.
Progress can be tracked in a number of ways. Students can be enrolled manually by the teacher, automatically by the administrator, or they can be allowed to enrol themselves. Students can also be added to groups if they need to be separated from classes sharing the same course or if tasks need to be differentiated.
When first requested, Moodle courses are hidden from students. Courses requested before the start of Preview Week are automatically released to students at the start of Preview Week. If a course is requested during Preview Week, it will be released to students the business day before the semester starts. If requested after the business day ...
Note: We do not recommend re-opening a course after the close of the semester because it can confuse students. If you have a student working on an Incomplete you do not need to re-open a past semester's course (which would make it show in the My Courses navigation for all students who had been enrolled in the class).
Course enrolment. Before a learner can access your course, they must first be authenticated on the siteand that is the responsibility of the site administrator. Enrolment methods. There are several enrolment methodsavailable to a teacher, what is available, again, depends on the site administrator.
In Moodle, a teacher has responsibility for the materials in their own course. They often also manage enrolments and are able to change the layout of the course page. This quick start guide introduces Moodle's features to those with the Teacher role. Contents.
You can also add elements, known as 'blocks', to the right, left or both sides of your central learning area , depending on your theme. For more information see Blocks. Remember that blocks will not display in the Moodle Mobile appso, think carefully about which blocks you really need. Course enrolment.
