A: You can drop a class without penalty any time BEFORE the first day of classes for a given semester. You can do this online via CUNYfirst. After the semester starts, there is a refund schedule that can be found online in the Academic Calendar.
Check the selected classes to drop and click on Drop selected classes. After clicking on Drop selected classes, you will be sent to another page where you would be told to confirm your selection. Be sure that this is the class that you would want to drop before you click on Finish Dropping. If not, cancel it.

The request to defer is final. Guidelines for applying for a deferral of admission: A request for a deferral explaining the reason why the student would like to defer their admission must be submitted no later than May 1. All students must accept the offer of admission and pay the commitment deposit on or before May 1.
Important Definitions. Course Drop: Removal of a course from your schedule prior to the end of the first week of class. Course Withdrawal: Any removal of a course from your schedule after the end of week one using the online form provided.Jan 18, 2022
Withdrawing is not the same thing as dropping a class early in the semester. When a student drops a class, it disappears from their schedule. After the “drop/add” period, a student may still have the option to Withdraw. Withdrawal usually means the course remains on the transcript with a “W” as a grade.
CUNY fee waivers are automatically available to all students who qualify for free or reduced priced lunch, are homeless or in foster care, or whose family lives in federally subsidized public housing or receives public assistance. Contact your counselor/college advisor to request a CUNY fee waiver.

Candidates for freshman admission to a bachelor’s degree program must show that they are proficient in English and math on the basis of the SAT, ACT, New York State Regents, or meet the proficiency index scores in order to be admitted.
Students will have 90 minutes to complete Section 1. Students who finish their essay response before the 90 minutes is up, may go on to Section 2. When 90 minutes have passed, students will automatically go to Section 2. Once students move to Section 2, they are NOT able to return to Section 1.
Course averages are determined by two factors: 65% of the grade is determined by the instructor, based on student performance, and 35% of the grade is determined by the university final exam.
The CAT in Writing is a standardized writing test that measures students’ ability to do college-level writing in English and assesses readiness for introductory college courses. In the test, students are required to read, understand, and respond to a passage of 250-300 words.

To complete the program, 34 credits are required for the degree: 7 subject matter courses totaling 28 credits, Methods of Graduate Study, ENG 690, for 3 credits, and the Thesis Independent Study, ENG 780 for 3 credits.
Applicants who have been enrolled at CSI do not need to request a CSI transcript; the Office of Recruitment and Admissions will obtain a copy.
