From the Administration menu go to Courses > Backups > Automated backup setup. You will then need to configure the setup options you require. Next you will need to configure your desired settings. Click Save changes.

Activities

Activities are interactive items of content that you can add to a course. Unlike resources (which tend to be passive content items) activities encourage participation from Learners and other course users - whether that be making a post, submitting an assignment, casting a vote, or another interaction.

Resources

Resources tend to be passive content items that are useful for distributing information. They are normally added to the course by a Trainer or Site Administrator and then accessed by Learners (or other Trainers). There is a wide range of different resource types available in Totara Learn which can add depth to your courses.

Manage activities

This lists the course page activity and resource plugins currently installed and allows you to change the settings of the plugins.

Editing activities and resources

There are lots of ways you can quickly edit resources and activities to your preferences, including changing settings, renaming, and moving the activity or resource within your course.

Totara Academy

The Totara Academy has a program specifically for Course Creators in Totara Learn. In this program you can find a number of courses covering how to use various course activities and resources, see best practice, and give them a go yourself.

Using the catalogue

The Grid Catalogue is enabled by default within all new installations of Totara Learn v12 onwards. To use the Category or Report (previously known as the Enhanced Catalogue) display for your catalogue, go to Advanced features within the Site administration menu and select the desired option from the Catalogue type setting.

Explore content marketplace

When viewing the catalogue as a site administrator or course creator, and where a Content Marketplace has been enabled, a link to Explore Content Marketplace is provided.

Creating learning items

When viewing the catalogue as a site administrator or or a user with the capability to create courses, program or certifications, a Create option is available to add new courses, program and/or certifications to the site.

Configuring the course catalogue

How users can interact with the catalogue, the way it displays and what information it contains can be customised by a site administrator.

How is the catalogue populated

Catalogue entries for courses, programs and certifications are kept up-to-date automatically by Totara Learn. When a user changes data relating to learning items, catalogue data is either updated immediately, or else marked as needing to be updated as soon as possible by scheduling a new adhoc task.

Sorting when multiple languages are enabled

When multiple languages are installed, the sorting dropdown in the catalogue is removed. Instead, sorting is automatically managed, depending on the status of the catalogue. In order of precedence (highest first):

Fixing exceptions

The exception report details any errors that have occurred when the system has tried to calculate the completion dates and enrolments for the Learners assigned to a program/certification e.g. the completion criteria states the Learner has 30 days from the position start date to complete the program.

Exception types

There are several different types of exceptions that occur in different circumstances.

Totara Academy

The Totara Academy has a whole course dedicated to using Programs and certifications in Totara Learn. Here you can learn more on how to use programs and certifications, see best practice, and give it a go yourself.

Creating a new course

Site Administrators, Site Managers, and Course Creators can create new courses as follows:

Course settings

Course page settings control how a course behaves in terms of, for example, enrolments, availability, file upload restrictions, course name. It is the first page viewed after creating a course.

Course sections

Course sections are displayed in the centre of a course page and contain activities and resources. Course sections can be renamed (), moved (), hidden or deleted after editing has been turned on.

How to "duplicate" a course?

I'm quite new to teaching with moodle - and now my first course is over, a new one is starting (new name, same content, different participants). How can I manage this without copying every item one after another but also preserving the old course without any changes.

Re: How to "duplicate" a course?

Very well put. I like that id trick and your suggestions. I think somebody has a plan for old courses.

Re: How to "duplicate" a course?

Definately noticed that about the quizes, and that may also be true for lesson questions. I seem to recall trying to do an edit in my localMoodle and the teacher could not go in and change a lesson question.

Re: How to "duplicate" a course?

I am trying to duplicate a live course, I want to copy the content of my 26 week course to week 27, hence a new course with the same content as week 1..

Re: How to "duplicate" a course?

It would really be nice to have a feature to "duplicate" a course easily, instead of going through the course "backup/restore" or "import" process... just like how we could duplicate a resource in a course right now in Moodle 2.x... Is this even on the radar of the Moodle development team? It would be awesome to have such feature!

Re: How to "duplicate" a course?

Wow, Judy, what you describe is exactly what I need. I am teaching courses on the Astrological Lunation Cycle. Briefly, there are 4 lesson sections, each dedicated to a major phase of the Moon: New, 1st Quarter, Full, and Last Quarter. So I need courses with assignments, etc.

Re: How to "duplicate" a course?

Currently I am developing a module to duplicate the course in similar way that you mentioned here.
