With the Adviser-Assisted Drop Request Process, you submit a form that sends an email to your adviser (s), You should connect with your adviser (s) to discuss what you want to do, and the adviser (s) will then communicate with the UW Bothell registration team to drop the classes. Submitting the form does not automatically drop the courses.
Send your request by email at [email protected] or by fax at 206-685-9359. You cannot drop a course by phone. Requests should include your name, student ID number and course name. If you fail to attend class, or only tell the instructor that you want to drop the course, you have not officially dropped it.
If the petition is approved, you’ll get a grade of RD (Registrar Drop) on your UW transcript for that course — or HW (Hardship Withdrawal) for courses taken winter quarter 2020 or earlier. To apply for Former Quarter Drop, fill out a petition here (UW NetID required).
If hardship withdrawal is approved, you’ll get a W for the course on your UWPCE official record. To inquire about hardship withdrawal, contact Registration Services at [email protected].
No withdrawals are accepted after the first day of the course. No drops of any kind are permitted on the last day of the course. (You may drop a course until the first 40 percent of a special dates course is completed. No drop is permitted after 40 percent of a special dates course is completed except with a complete withdrawal for the quarter.)
Students dropping a course during the first two weeks of a quarter shall have no entry on their permanent academic transcript. If all courses are dropped, then a "Withdrawn" designation is recorded on the transcript.
The Unrestricted Drop Period continues through the second week of the quarter. Courses dropped during this period do not appear on the academic transcript. A $20 fee is charged for each additional day drop transactions are processed starting the second week of the quarter.
It is the student's responsibility to withdraw completely if he or she is unable to attend. Beginning in the 3rd week of the quarter students must withdraw using the Adviser-Assisted Drop process.
This process provides students with a method to petition for a grade earned in a former quarter to be changed to a Registrar Drop (RD). A Former Quarter Drop (FQD) may be granted if a student is unable to complete or withdraw from their course (s) because of extenuating circumstances beyond their control.
If you are planning on not attending UW Bothell for two consecutive quarters (not including Summer Quarter) you will need to reapply as a returning student.
Review the adding/dropping courses or complete withdrawal calendar to understand your options and deadlines regarding dropping courses.
Review the drops, withdrawals, forfeitures information to understand the financial ramifications or requirements.
To drop all of your courses during the Late Course Drop period, use the Adviser-Assisted Drop Process.
Students receiving financial aid should consult with a financial aid counselor to understand the implications of withdrawing; especially if there is no plan to attend the subsequent quarter and have federal loans.
Students not planning to return for the subsequent quarter should make arrangements to save any documents stored on any UW Google Suite or U Drive and set up forwarding on their uw.edu email address to a private email address. UWNetID services, Google Apps, and other storage services will expire and be purged 10 days into the second quarter in which they are not registered.
Students who currently reside in University of Washington Bothell housing or who wish to cancel and do not currently live in student housing should review the policies & forms on the Housing & Residential Life webpage. Students must notify Housing & Residential Life of their intention to withdraw.

The information below outlines how you can use the FQD process to request to drop a class or classes completed in a quarter that has already ended.
The Former Quarter Drop policy is governed by the University’s Scholastic Regulations Chapter 113. The University of Washington faculty recently approved amendments to the regulations to create the Current Quarter Drop and Former Quarter Drop (FQD) withdrawal policies.
