How to Withdraw from the Institute.

The instructor will then submit the necessary information to the Registration and Student Records Services Division via the online withdrawal form. Log in to my.waketech.edu with your Wake Tech username and password. From the Academics drop-down menu, select Course Withdrawals.
In the event of a system glitch, this will serve as proof of the intent to withdrawal or proof that the action was taken but not processed properly. Any student who wishes to drop a course must do so using the instructions below. The course will remain on the student's schedule with a status of "course dropped by student."
There is no refund for dropped courses. In order to qualify for a refund, a student must completely withdraw from the Institute before the deadline. Students who are full-time (enrolled in 12 hours, at least) and withdraw from a number of courses that lowers the semester total below 12 will no longer be considered.
After withdrawing from a class or from all classes, students are expected to print out their schedules, as described below, and keep a copy as a receipt verifying the action that was taken on that date.
Dropping an individual course from your schedule results in a “W” grade and indicates your official withdrawal from a course. No credit will be received for the course, and the grade of W will not be computed in the Georgia Tech GPA.
Failing & Then Re-Taking a Class Croskey notes that dropping a class is better than withdrawing, but withdrawing is better than failing. “A failing grade will lower the student's GPA, which may prevent a student from participating in a particular major that has a GPA requirement,” Croskey says.
Dropping a class is much better for your GPA than failing a class or getting a C or D in it is because a dropped class does not affect your grade point average. Dropping a class may also raise your GPA because it can allow you to spend more time on other classes and raise your grades in them.
A. Withdrawal. Withdrawal from the Institute will not be permitted after 60 percent of the academic term has passed, except in cases of hardship as determined by the Institute Undergraduate Curriculum Committee or Graduate Curriculum Committee, as appropriate.
Classes and Planning After the last day of the Add/Drop period, you must complete a Withdrawal Request form. You will need to demonstrate and document serious and compelling reasons to withdraw from your course(s). Please note that your Instructor's signature(s) will be required.
For example, if you are going to fail or get a “D,” it's probably better to unenroll. Additionally, if the class is causing you physical or emotional stress and health-related issues like anxiety, it's not worth sacrificing your wellbeing.
Important Definitions. Course Drop: Removal of a course from your schedule prior to the end of the first week of class. Course Withdrawal: Any removal of a course from your schedule after the end of week one using the online form provided.
Serious and Compelling Reasons An extended absence due to a death in the immediate family. This applies to absences exceeding a week due to family affairs that must be attended to by the student. A necessary change in employment status which interferes with the student's ability to attend class.
General Format for an Introduction: I would like to request a withdrawal with cause (WC) from [course XXXX]. The severe distress I experienced came to a peak [in the middle of the semester/after the withdrawal deadline] when it became difficult to continue completing my course(s) successfully.
Make an appointment or stop in during office hours to let your professor and/or TA know that you're dropping the class. If you've already talked to your academic adviser, the conversation should go pretty smoothly—and quickly.
Dropping a class with financial aid won't necessarily affect your FAFSA and financial aid award. If you're taking extra classes, for instance, you could probably afford to remove one from your schedule.
All holds must be removed before a student can drop a course or withdraw from the Institute.

The student will be responsible for paying the balance of tuition, fees and book charges not covered by the prorated Title IV and other aid received.
Title IV Financial Aid (Pell Grant, SEOG, etc.) will be prorated based on the amount of aid the student earned for the period the student was enrolled.
Students who cease attendance without withdrawing via the Student Information System receive grades of "F," "U," or "I" for their ongoing courses.
If a hold is placed, the student will be notified and the hold must be cleared by their major school.
The Leave of Absence would cover eligible students for at least two and no more than seven semesters (including Summer). If the seventh semester is a Spring term, students may opt to return in either the Summer or Fall term.
Any student in good standing who chooses to participate in an approved study abroad program for two or more terms must complete a Student Information Update Form with the study abroad coordinator prior to departure. This form enables the student to re-enroll for the term of "planned re-entry" without submitting a formal readmission application. It will be the student's responsibility to inform the study abroad coordinator of any change to her/his planned re-entry date.

Any student in good standing who is not enrolled for one single term will be allowed to re-enroll without applying for readmission to the Institute. This regulation makes no distinction among Fall Semester, Spring Semester, and Summer Session.
Any student, except a part-time graduate student, who withdraws during an academic term and wishes to return the following academic term must complete a Petition to the Faculty for consideration. This petition must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar before the deadline for the academic term for which readmission is requested.

A student who finds it necessary to withdraw from a course, courses, or from the college must initiate the withdrawal process by contacting the instructor of each course and declaring his or her intent to withdraw. The instructor will then submit the necessary information to the Registration and Student Records Services Division via the online withdrawal form.
If this sequence is not followed, students will be assessed a 25% tuition penalty for dropping and adding in separate transactions. 1.

If a class is removed from your schedule and you are not charged for the class, your financial aid must be recalculated with the remaining eligible credits on your schedule. Dropped classes will be monitored throughout the entire semester.
You can withdraw from a class by completing a Withdrawal Form for each class at any Student Services Center or online using the Course Withdrawal form. .
A student who stops attending a class after the refund period without withdrawing receives an F grade.
Gateway reserves the right to cancel any scheduled class or to combine class sections as a result of insufficient enrollment. If this does occur, every effort will be made to notify you prior to the start of the class, so check your Gateway Student Email account frequently.

Confirm your transaction by reviewing your class schedule. You are not eligible to receive credit for the class if you are not registered; you may not attend a class unless you are officially registered for that class.
You may add a course online or in person up to the end of the first day of class, provided the class capacity has not been reached and all registration requirements have been followed. After the first day, you must contact the instructor and request authorization to add the course.
We recommend students speak with an advisor and a financial aid officer before dropping or withdrawing from courses. These actions could affect you in many ways, including financial aid and student housing.
After the course withdrawal date, the college will assign a grade of WF (Withdrawn Failing).
If you stop attending class and fail to drop or withdraw officially, you will not be automatically withdrawn. If you do not officially withdraw, your grades will be recorded as "F" for that course regardless of the grade average at the time you last attended, which will affect your GPA and may cause other problems.

The student will receive a grade of "W." Withdrawals from courses appear on your transcript permanently but do not impact your GPA. They do, however, count as an attempt. Greenville Technical College gives a student three attempts to successfully complete a course, so do not treat withdrawals lightly.
