What is the National College of Technical Instruction?

National College of Technical Instruction will provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students with documented disabilities. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), it is the student’s responsibility to notify NCTI, in writing, of any diagnosed disabilities along with the appropriately prescribed accommodations requested. This documentation must be provided at the time of enrollment and at least 15 business days prior to the first day of the program or course.

What is a refund for a student who withdraws from a course?

If a student withdraws prior to completion of the course per state requirements (either by submitting a written request to withdraw, or by the student’s conduct, including but not necessarily limited to the student’s lack of attendance), the refund shall be in the amount the student paid, less hours of instruction, registration fee, equipment, books, insurance, supplies and material charges owed. The refund policy and examples of how it is applied can be found in the enrollment agreement.

What are the standards for satisfactory academic progress?

Specific aspects of satisfactory academic progress such as attendance, grading, academic probation, leaves of absence and maximum allowable program time, including the effect of failure to adhere to the standards as published, may be contained within separate, specific policies pertaining to each aspect. Where such policies exist, they will typically contain more detailed information and should be referenced as needed for application.

Does NCTI discriminate on the basis of race?

NCTI, its staff and instructors do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference or disability. Discrimination or acts of discrimination on the part of any student will not be tolerated.

Does NCTI have an active placement office?

While NCTI does not have an active Placement Office and does not represent itself as offering active placement assistance, the Programs Administrator, the instructors and the staff are available at any time to provide information on jobs available in the area. It is also important to note that graduation from NCTI courses will be looked upon favorably in job applications and interviews with American Medical Response – NCTI’s parent organization. However, no expressed or implied guarantee of placement is made by NCTI or any of its representatives.

What is NCTI equipment?

NCTI maintains a large inventory of educational and medical equipment specifically designed for educating emergency medical services (EMS) personnel in today’s healthcare environment. The inventory includes specialized anatomical models and interactive manikins and other devices designed to simulate the human body. Cardiac monitors and other prehospital technology are available for hands-on education. Students learn to manage the airway, ventilate patients, support vascular status, and treat shock. In the advanced programs, students initiate intravenous lines and administer medications as allowed by state and national scope of practice.

How many hours of clinical rotation is required?

Successful completion of the clinical portion of the education program, including a minimum of 160 hours in the hospital setting, with satisfactory completion of all required skills, patient contacts, and satisfactory completion of a final clinical evaluation by a hospital preceptor, is required. The student must also successfully complete a clinical review with a school representative prior to proceeding to the field internship. The clinical portion of the education must be completed within three months of the start of the clinical rotation.

What are the facilities at NCTI?

The educational facilities at NCTI Programs include multiple classroom and laboratory spaces that accommodate both large and small group learning activities. All NCTI facilities meet the fire and life safety standards as outlined in the California Fire Code, as well as local jurisdictional requirements.

NCTI was founded in 1988 to prepare emergency medical responders of all levels. The EMS profession has grown and changed over the years: from our professional designations (EMT and Paramedic for example), equipment, and scope of practice to name a few. Our curriculum has changed and evolved as well: from the National Standard Curriculum to the National EMS Education Standards. And with the curriculum changes, at NCTI our instructional methodologies have also evolved. Our classrooms are interactive, and the learner is engaged as an active participant in the education process. All domains of learning are stressed and critical thinking and problem solving are emphasized. Knowing the what, why, and when (cognitive) is reinforced with how (psychomotor) and also how to interact with our patients and team members (affective). What is a LOA in NCTI?

If it becomes necessary for a student to interrupt training due to mitigating circumstances, which can include but are not limited to, serious health issues or personal issues, a leave of absence (LOA) or permanent withdrawal must be approved by the campus director in accordance with college policy. The student must meet with the campus director and/or program director, provide documentation, if possible, and sign a written request prior to the leave of absence. If unforeseen circumstances prevent the student from providing required documentation and signing a request prior to the LOA, an approved LOA may be granted, and the campus director will document his/her decision and collect written requests at a later time. The campus director will determine if there is a reasonable expectation the student will be able to return to school. A release to return to school may be required. LOA is not counted as hours attempted.

Prospective students are encouraged to visit the NCTI campus in Springfield, MA and discuss personal educational and occupational plans with the Program Director prior to applying or signing an enrollment agreement. The NCTI Massachusetts EMS Education Program offers certificate of completion programs. College credits are available for the Paramedic Program through the College of Emergency Services in Milwaukie, OR and are applicable to an Associate’s degree. The Massachusetts Consortium for Paramedic Education holds a Letter of Review granted by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Please refer to the Accreditation/Approvals section of this catalog for more information. The program currently does not qualify for federal Title IV student financial aid, though from time to time other private sponsorship or scholarship programs are available from EMS employers, including the NCTI parent organization, American Medical Response. In some locations, grant funding is periodically available to qualified individuals to pay for or assist with tuition and/or fees.

What is the NCTI EMS program?

The NCTI Massachusetts EMS Education Program requires students who are attending the Program to be making satisfactory academic progress toward the completion of the educational objectives for the program in which they are enrolled. All students must meet the minimum standards set forth in the Program’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policy, or they shall be deemed not making satisfactory progress. Students eligible for specific financial aid (such as Veteran’s Administration funding) may be considered ineligible by their funding source until satisfactory standards are met.

What is an instructional faculty?

Instructional faculty are EMS professionals with additional education relating to instructional methodologies. The NCTI Massachusetts EMS Education Program selects instructors carefully and recognizes the key role they play in facilitating learning in an organized format that progressively builds towards developing competencies and student success.

When is tuition due for paramedics?

Tuition is due in full on the first day of class. The student Enrollment Agreement for the Paramedic Program indicates the payment schedule for tuition and fees for those requesting a payment plan. Fees must be paid as identified in the Agreement.

Is Massachusetts Consortium for Paramedic Education accredited?

The Massachusetts Consortium for Paramedic Education has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
