I am a new instructor and would like to see an example of the item analysis results of a class of students' evaluation of an instructor's teaching in a course

Answer: Traditional item analysis results are forwarded to departmental representatives who then forward the results to individual instructors. Item analysis results include the item mean, standard deviation, number of valid responses, and percentages of students selecting each response option.

How might an instructor benefit from the results of students' evaluation of their instruction?

Answer: If your instruction in more than one course was evaluated by your students in a quarter, this affords you with the opportunity to look across the courses you taught to see if any patterns emerge. That is, are the same items rated high across courses? If so, then students perceive these as areas of strength.

Which items from the "old" Course & Instructor Evaluation forms were designated by the University Academic Assessment Committee (UAAC) as being equivalent to those on the "new" Course & Instructor Evaluation forms for historical comparative purposes?

Answer: When the evaluation forms were revised in the fall quarter of 2007, one item from the Course Evaluation form and two items from the Instructor Evaluation form were designated by the UAAC as being equivalent for historical comparative purposes. These items are presented in the table below.

I would like to see how the student evaluations of the course I am coordinating compares to the college as a whole. I also would like to see how the student evaluations of my instruction compare to the college as a whole. What do you suggest?

Answer: On a quarterly basis, each college dean receives reports that list item analysis results in the form of descriptive statistics (that is, mean, standard deviation, and number of valid responses) for each course and instructor in the college evaluated that quarter.

One of my students feels he indicated "strongly disagree" rather than "strongly agree" on his course evaluations. Is there any way you can revise his answers?

Answer: According to Midwestern University policy, "Student participation in the evaluation of courses and instructors using the approved MWU course and instructor forms may require authenticated login, but otherwise must be confidential." So individual responses cannot be changed once submitted - all reporting data is anonymous.
