Withdrawing from a Course Students may withdraw from a course without academic penalty during the first 60 percent of the course. Withdrawing cannot be done online. Students who have earned a minimum of 30 credit hours or 50 percent of the degree/certificate requirements at John Tyler Community College are eligible for graduation honors as follows, given the GPAs provided:
A student who has completed 24 college credit hours at John Tyler Community College and has achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 will be placed on the honors list.
Good Standing. A student is considered to be “in good standing” if he/she maintains a minimum GPA of 2.0 each semester, is eligible to re-enroll at John Tyler Community College, and is not on academic suspension or dismissal status.
To be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled at the College, have a period of at least five years (60 months) between enrollments, and have earned a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the first 12 college-level credits (or more) after returning to John Tyler.
College transfer programs include college freshman and sophomore courses in general studies, liberal arts, business administration, engineering and other disciplines, meeting standards acceptable for transfer to baccalaureate degree programs at four-year colleges and universities.
The Virginia Community College System has defined student directory information as a student’s name, dates of attendance, major field of study, course credit load, expected or actual date of graduation, and any degrees, honors, and awards received.
In computing GPA, only the most recent grade is used if the course has been repeated. All previous attempts are denoted with the message “Repeated Course” on the student’s transcripts and are removed from the GPA calculation that is reflected in the current cumulative GPA. Four-year institutions and programs requiring admission at John Tyler, such as Nursing and Funeral Services, may use all courses completed as part of the selection criteria.

Tyler’s college catalog outlines all the courses required in your major and includes a printable degree planner you can use to track your progress toward graduation. If you are using financial aid, this information is critical. Financial aid will only pay for courses that are part of your major.
Our searchable class schedule allows you to filter your options allows you to filter current class offerings based on class length, class type, campus, meeting day and more. We recommend writing down your preferred class numbers from the schedule so you can search for them directly in the myTyler Student Information System to register.
Once you have registered, you will need to pay for your classes. You do not have to pay immediately when registering, but it is important to note that if you do not pay for your classes by the listed payment deadlines, you may be dropped from your classes. Tyler does not send tuition bills or reminders of payments due.
Students who have their textbooks on the first day of class are more likely to get better grades and complete their courses. So be prepared! Take a copy of your class schedule to the bookstore, or order online.

If you complete another agreement, you will be assessed another enrollment fee. Contact TMS at 1-800-337-0291 to inform them that you have added/dropped a class and need to have your TMS agreement adjusted. TMS will contact the Tyler Financial Services Office to notify them of your updated payment plan.
How to Enroll in the Payment Plan. You must first register for classes before signing up for the payment plan. Students who choose to enroll in the payment plan will have contracts automatically initiated for the total amount of their current tuition and fees.
There is no credit check or interest charged to participate in the payment plan. Payments are made automatically from the bank account (checking or savings) or credit card you specify. There is an additional fee assessed for using a credit card, and TMS only accepts American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa.
Transfer Grants. Tyler graduates can receive up to $3,000 annually through the Virginia Two-Year College Transfer Grant. Eligible students must have a 3.0 GPA, transfer to a participating four-year school, meet certain financial criteria and be enrolled as a full-time student.
