Microsurgery is a sub-specialty of a number of disciplines including plastic surgery, head and neck surgery, vascular surgery, and neurosurgery where the surgeon is required to perform fine dissections and microanastomoses of small vessels.
Microanastomoses are extremely challenging and require significant training to develop the skills required to perform and perfect these surgeries. To help develop these skills, the microsurgery course allows the student to learn and practice microanastomoses in an IACUC-approved, anesthetized rat model.
Stop the Bleed is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene.
Difficult Airway is a simulation-based course for medical providers responsible for patient airway management. This 1-day course allows providers to acquire or enhance their skills for preparing for and responding to a difficult airway. It includes didactic instruction and hands-on practice in a risk-free environment.
The Minimally Invasive Surgery Course is a cadaver based, hands-on educational program designed to provide an in-depth experience in Gynecologic Minimally Invasive Surgical techniques. It is designed for gynecologic surgeons who desire to advance their laparoscopic skillset and knowledge base, and apply these skills to perform more advanced Minimally Invasive Surgeries in their practices. It will include training in laparoscopic suturing techniques, laparoscopic surgical dissection and effective use of laparoscopic instrumentation. Surgical techniques to prevent and repair bladder and bowel injuries will be taught and performed. Inanimate laparoscopic trainers are available throughout the entire course so that participants can master the skills of laparoscopic suturing and knot tying.
