Brown students who wish to register for a RISD course in the fall, winter or spring terms should take the following steps: Access the RISD Course Catalog. Use the advanced search to search by ‘term’ (ie: Fall 2021). The modality of the course is listed, as well as instructor email.
Brown|RISD Dual Degree and Master of Arts in Design Engineering students do not elect courses at either institution via cross-registration. Students with a RISD or Brown ID have access to opportunities on both campuses. In addition to taking courses at Brown, RISD students can access Brown's libraries and athletic facilities.

Academics at Brown are challenging if you want them to be. It's fairly easy to float by if that's what you're into, but if you want to do a good job and you're invested in your classes you can learn a lot, and meet with people who are just as invested as you.

It is not possible to transfer into the Brown | RISD Dual Degree Program.
RISD will offer courses in all three modalities (in-person, hybrid, and online) for Fall, Wintersession and Spring.
Since proficiency in English is a prerequisite for acceptance, applicants must attain an acceptable score on their chosen test; RISD requires a minimum result of 93 on the TOEFL or a 6.5 on the IELTS. Duolingo has changed its scoring system beginning with tests completed on July 15, 2019 and beyond.
Test-Optional, SAT and ACT. RISD is offering all applicants (domestic and international) the ability to be reviewed without submitting results from the SAT or ACT. Students may opt into this process by selecting this option within the RISD section of the Common Application.

Every year Brown welcomes students from around the world. In fact, about 15 percent of our students come from abroad.
Brown has a Wintersession program that is not available to RISD students. For Summer, if RISD students register for a summer course at Brown, they must pay Brown directly, and they must receive prior approval from the appropriate RISD department to transfer the course to RISD.
Courses at Brown must be applicable toward RISD degree requirements or they will not be approved. Brown University is the only college or university with which RISD has a reciprocal cross-registration agreement for the fall and spring semesters.
