In a mouse study, NAC 30 minutes before alcohol reduced liver damage while NAC 4 hours after alcohol increased damage. At the end of the day, who knows? There are no human studies. I'd take NAC a few hours before and then maybe upon waking the next morning/afternoon. Taking TUDCA the next day would also help.
