I worked as a remote instructor. I enjoyed the subject matter I was teaching, but did not like the subpar academic standards the students were held to. They deserved better as did I because my hands were tied. Would not recommend working for them
Being able to work online is wonderful. It allows you to work a full time job and supplement your income with part time teaching. Kaplan is very supportive.
Kaplan provides great educational services to colleges and universities and corporations and businesses, including higher education programs, professional training and certifications, test preparation and student support services.
Pressure to give students grades they didn't earn abounds here. They want you to inflate the grades and tell you if they student isn't getting good grades it's because you aren't teaching right. Trouble is, poor students don't study or come to class. They get the first financial aid then skip out.
Management, including our chair, did not appreciate the professor's role in the classroom. Management told us we were appreciated then we were subjected to a change in our payment per class--the amount decreased.

Great part-time work. I learned how to teach online with greater detail and depth. We switched over to Purdue Global and I like this even more. My bosses are great people and help me all they can.
There were very few typical days at Kaplan. An example: A Criminal Justice class may start in the parking lot where students would identify, and write violations on vehicles (campus exercise only) before entering the classroom. What I learned was lecturing was only a portion of the learning process. The entire campus would support these efforts.
Since the new academic dean, Kaplan has gone downhill. Not a Great place to work anymore. As far as academia goes, the fewer credentials you have the better off you are in being hired. If you are a chiropractor, you have the world at your disposal there.

I guess one needs to teach 20 courses a year just to make a living. A good rate of return for a doctorate.

Moreover, SACS does not allow instructors to teach more than 5 courses per semester. Keiser College has three semesters per year, meaning that an instructor can earn no more than $27,000.
I believe that AIU pays better than (perhaps, all) other online schools. I have taught for 5 DL schools. UoP's adjunct pay is by far the least.
