The International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) programs are administered through high schools. UMKC Departmental Exams

Credit by departmental examination may be earned if a student has previous knowledge or proficiency in an area of study and arranges to take a departmentally administered examination. The department involved must be willing to offer a test that measures the same level of proficiency as is required to earn credit for enrollment in the course.

How many semester hours are transferred to quarter hours?

Courses transferred from institutions that award quarter hours will be converted into semester hours at the rate of 1/4 hour = 2/3 semester hour. In general, courses with a grade of D or higher will receive full credit in transfer.

What is an official transcript?

Official transcripts are those sent directly to an employer or another institution of higher education or to any third party on behalf of the student. If the student receives the transcript before the third party, it is no longer considered by us to be official.

Does UMKC record undergraduate coursework?

All undergraduate college coursework attempted at accredited institutions will be recorded on the UMKC transcript of students seeking an undergraduate degree, regardless of whether or not it is applicable to a UMKC degree. Credit accepted from another institution may or may not be applicable to specific degree programs.

Does UMKC accept GPA transfer?

Transfer Coursework. UMKC accepts credit in transfer from regionally accredited institutions of recognized standing, both public and private. Your GPA does not transfer to UMKC unless you are transferring from another University of Missouri school.

Constitution Course

Every undergraduate student must take a course covering the United States Constitution and the Missouri State Constitution before graduation. Course options are included in the program requirements section below.

Missouri Higher Education Civics Achievement Examination

In accordance with Missouri Senate Bill 807 (section 170.013.1), 'any student entering a public institution of higher education for the first time after July 2019 who is pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree from such institution shall successfully pass an examination on the provisions and principles of American civics with a score of seventy percent or greater as a condition of graduation from such institution'.

Constitution Course Requirement

Section 170.011.1 of the Missouri Revised Statutes, 2015, states that all candidates for a degree issued by a college or university in the state of Missouri must have “satisfactorily passed an examination on the provisions and principles of the Constitution of the United States and of the state of Missouri, and in American history and American institutions.”.

Requirements for Bachelor's Degrees

The College of Arts and Sciences values the distinctive benefits of a traditional liberal arts education for students and society and therefore adds these degree requirements to work in tandem with UMKC Essentials.

General Differences between B.A., B.L.A and B.S. General Requirements

The CAS degree requirements for the bachelor of arts, the bachelor of liberal arts, and the bachelor of science degrees are the same, with the following exceptions:

CAS Degree Requirements

Junior/Senior-level Writing Intensive Course.#N#Upper-level (300/400 level) Writing Intensive courses are designated with WI, PW or LW following the course number. One Writing Intensive courses must be completed during the junior or senior year and after completion of English 225 (or its equivalent).

Students transferring into the College of Arts and Sciences with an Associate of Arts degree from either another regionally accredited Missouri institution or from a regionally accredited Kansas institution must complete the following requirements for baccalaureate degrees in the College:
