UC Berkeley degree students have enrollment priority in all courses, and not all UC Berkeley courses are open for Concurrent Enrollment applicants (e.g., classes in the School of Law are not eligible). Approval of class applications is at the sole discretion of the campus academic departments.

Undergraduates: A course load of 15 units per semester is considered a normal undergraduate course load, and you are expected to enroll in at least 15 units. Graduate Students: A course load of 12 units per semester is considered a normal, full-time graduate course load.

Customarily students enroll in 13-17 units per semester. You may request to take fewer than 13 units per semester only if you have certifiable health-related challenges or are enrolled in the Disabled Students Program. You must maintain a minimum “C” average (2.0 grade-point average) while at UC Berkeley.

A student is considered full-time for a semester if he or she has registered for 12 or more units as an undergraduate, 8 or more units as a master's degree student or 6 or more units as a doctoral student.
Creating a Balanced Schedule: In general we recommend taking 15 units in your first quarter. By completing an average of 15 units per quarter, you will be on track to graduate in four years. Remember, you must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units to be considered a full-time student.
Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units in the academic term, unless on the degree list for the term. For financial aid purposes, 12 units per semester is considered full-time enrollment. Enrollment for less than 12 units per term may reduce your eligibility for certain types of aid.

The course will consist of 12 hours of private instruction, with an organ instructor on the Music Department faculty, focused on the study and performance of organ repertoire.

Depending on your college, you will have different breadth requirements to fulfill. For example, in the College of Letters and Science, there are seven breadth classes students have to take to graduate which you cannot use AP credit to opt-out of.
Students can enroll in up to 13.5 units for Phase I, and 17.5 units for Phase II. During the Adjustment Period, students can enroll up to their college’s unit maximum. Since there are these unit limits, it’s helpful to consider which classes are a higher priority for you and enroll in those first. 2.
The first thing to know when signing up for classes is when you can start! If you go to CalCentral and click on the My Academics tab, you can find your enrollment times under Class Enrollment . Enrollment is split into Phase I, Phase II, and an Adjustment Period.
In Phase 1, you can enroll in up to 13.5 units. During Phase 2, you can enroll in up to 17.5 units. (When you enroll for your very first semester, Phase 1 and Phase 2 are combined so you can enroll in up to 17.5 units.)
A prerequisite is a course or exam required to be completed before being allowed to enroll in a course. For example, Math 1A or the equivalent credit is a prerequisite to Math 1B, meaning Math 1A must be completed before Math 1B.
You will often receive an error message if you try to enroll in a course that has a time conflict with another course that is already on your schedule. This same error may prevent you from being enrolled from a waitlist.
Note: Referrals to the “department that hosts the course” means the department listed in the course name. For example, for Math 55, the department that hosts the course is Math. Department contact information can be found in the Academic Guide#N#(link is external)#N#.
L&S College Advisers also do not have access to students’ enrollment tools on Cal Central, so are less likely to be able to guide students through technical aspects of enrollment. However, we know it can be challenging for students to know where to go for information.
Students are often still working to finalize their schedule after the first day of instruction. As the semester progresses, you may decide you do not wish to keep a course on your schedule and find yourself looking for a replacement.
Most enrollment questions are best answered by other offices on campus aside from L&S Advising. Because enrollment for a course is managed by the department that hosts it, L&S College Advisers are unlikely to be able to provide additional information about waitlist procedures, likelihood of getting a seat, and enrollment restrictions. L&S College Advisers also do not have access to students’ enrollment tools on Cal Central, so are less likely to be able to guide students through technical aspects of enrollment.
Students who are more than one month overdue for any payment due to UC Berkeley Extension will be considered grossly delinquent and will be required to pay in advance, via cashier's check, for any and all future enrollments.
The policy will be finalized and issued on July 15, 2021.
Students who choose to use loans for concurrent enrollment fees should complete the loan application process 6–8 weeks prior to the payment deadlines. All fees are due on or before the payment deadline for each term.
