Legal equipment includes long bows, compound bows or recurve bows and arrows. The bow must have a pull of at least 35 pounds. No portion of the bow's riser or any track, trough, channel, arrow rest or other device that attaches to the bow's riser can guide the arrow from a point back beyond the bow's brace height.
Bag limits: A non resident may take one buck and one doe. Non resident hunters have to choose to hunt 1 of 3 seasons; archery, firearms (1st or 2nd), or late muzzleloader.
Free any-deer licenses and antlerless-deer-only licenses shall be valid in both the first and second regular gun seasons.
Hunters are required to report deer and turkey harvest either at iowadnr.gov or by calling the number printed on the harvest reporting tag. Shooting hours for all deer seasons are 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.

Youth Hunting License Iowa residents under the age of 16 are not required to have a hunting license or pay the Wildlife Habitat Fee. They must be accompanied by a licensed person age 18 or older. Non-residents under the age of 16 must have a non-resident youth hunting license and pay the Wildlife Habitat Fee.
