The academic year is divided into four 12-week quarters, each comprised of three one-month classes, one class per month, as opposed to the semester system many other universities follow.
Undergraduate programs are about 42-46 courses, depending on your program, and take an average of three and half years to complete.
Each credit hour corresponds to a minimum of 3 hours of student engagement per week for a traditional 14-week course or 6 hours per week for a 7-week course. This time may be spent on discussions, readings and lectures, study and research, and assignments. Most courses at AIC are three credit hours.
Three terms in an Academic Year.
Approval to take more than 18 units in a quarter requires advance approval from the Committee on the Application of Standards. Students are not approved to accelerate their studies every month or to take more than two classes in one month.

Most college courses are three credit hours, so that means you should expect to spend between six and nine hours a week studying for one course every week. A full-time course load is 12 credit hours – or four courses – so in this scenario, you would spend between 24 and 36 hours a week studying each week.Sep 26, 2017
Though many people do take 18 credits in a semester, it is your individual experience and no one else's. An 18-credit semester may be worth losing some sleep over — but it's not worth losing your sanity. Pay attention to warning signs that you're doing too much and stop yourself short before it worsens.Oct 18, 2019
Online education takes a real level of dedication from adult learners, cooperation from friends and family, and good time management skills; there are several things to consider before you commit to starting any online program.
Once enrolled, the Academic Advisor team can help students plan their study schedules and classes and help make necessary accommodations should any unforeseen circumstances result in a student needing to delay taking a class (another advantage of the one-month course system).
Students can access online course materials, engage with their professors, other faculty members, and fellow cohorts, and submit coursework via any internet-enabled device. This means any free time on the schedule can be an opportunity to study.
National University’s online degrees are fully accredited and recognized by employers as valuable and desirable qualifications. I earned a master's degree at National University and I can say without reservation that it is a great school. I also took several classes in a doctoral program at NCU...and I can say without reservation that you should avoid that school.
Whatever you do, don't take the NU workload lightly at the master's level. Those folks don't waste time, and have fairly stiff grade penalties for being late on assignments.
I have taught in the 4 week format at another college. It is absolutely brutal for the students. The old saying "its like drinking from a firehose" certainly holds true. I left that institution and have vowed that I would never work in that format again.
