If a student exceeds 16 units of repeat coursework, future repeated course grades will be averaged together. If you receive a “D”, “F”, or ”W” in a sequential course, DO NOT enroll in the subsequent course. You must successfully repeat the first course in order to continue in the sequence.
If you earned a U, you can only repeat the class for an S/U. If you earned a D or F, you can only repeat the class for a letter grade. In a case of academic dishonesty, the grades for both the first and the repeated class apply to your GPA. Read the Academic Senate policy on repetition of courses.

For your high school, a D is passing. You can graduate with Ds, but you cannot go to college with Ds. Colleges will give you ZERO credit for the class, just like you got an F.
If you fail, it's usually smart to retake the class. Most colleges will allow you to retake a class one time and replace your new grade with the failed one. This looks better on transcripts and for financial aid purposes.
In many schools, if a student retakes a course, the most recent grade will replace the lower grade in the student's GPA. The earlier, lower grade will remain on the transcript, but will not be included in the GPA. Some schools, however, average the two grades and include the averaged grade in the GPA.
The Consequences of Failing a Class A failing grade will likely hurt your GPA (unless you took the course pass/fail), which could jeopardize your financial aid. The failure will end up on your college transcripts and could hurt your chances of getting into graduate school or graduating when you originally planned to.
Students who earned an unsatisfactory grade (i.e., C-, D+, D-, or E) the first time in a course can repeat that course for a grade if they have the dean's approval through CCAS. This approval is granted through the completion of the online Repeat Course Request Form.
The second grade always replaces the first grade. However, you can retake a class and get a worse grade. For example, if you have a D (a passing grade) and retake a course and receive an F (a failing grade), you now have a failing grade in the course and will have to take the class for a third time.

When “D” grades are earned, both units and grade points are earned and used in GPA calculations. When “D” grades are repeated, no new units are earned . If repeating a “D” grade results in a higher grade, additional grade points will be used to calculate GPA. Remember, a grade of “D” earned some grade points, so when it is repeated, the student receives only the additional grade points needed for the combined grade points to reflect the grade earned on repetition.

Generally, students are not allowed to repeat a course if they receive a C-. However, because the University of California requires students to earn a C or higher to fulfill ELWR, they must repeat AWP 3 if they receive a C- or lower.
If you were not suspended for your first violation, it is likely that you'll be suspended for 1-3 quarters for your second violation (even if the second violation is minor).
So, this means that while you are suspended, you could take courses at another university or from a community college. If you decide to enroll somewhere else while suspended from UCSD, DO check with your academic advisors beforehand to ensure that you take the appropriate courses for your major or degree.
