What does Andrew Ng think about deep learning?

I think Ng is a good teacher and does a great job simplifying the ideas without dumbing them down. He covers quite a bit of content and the programming exercises were extremely helpful. I was pleased to see that in the early lectures you have to implement things like backprop by hand instead of using deep learning libraries.

His intro to ML course is very good. If you are really interested in deep learning then his other courses are going to be quality but if you're looking for practicality stick to the intro course and move to industry specific topics - a few good ones ive come across are quantitative finance taught by igor halperin and bio statistics by johns hopkins

It is a pretty good course, although there is some hand waving concerning details and it mostly focuses on predictive modeling and somewhat less on theory. If you want to learn theory, the best MOOC is "Learning from data" on edX offered by CalTech, although I'm not sure if and when it will be offered again.

I didn't do Andrew Ng deep learning specialization but I read everywhere that it is really good. But it starts from theory and builds toward real world use. I would recommend the fast.ai course instead to start. It starts with real world use of deep learning and gradually work toward theory. Really enjoyed 2018 and 2019 version of the course.

The course "Learning From Data" by Abu-Mostafa is a pretty good but intensive introduction to Machine Learning. What I don't like about the Andrew Ng course is that it covers the mechanics of machine learning and not mathematics as such.
