Tangled is Disney's take on the classic story of Rapunzel. A young girl with beautiful long hair lives in a tower her entire life. One day, a handsome prince (or in this case, and outlaw) finds her tower and whisks her away. In this movie, Rapunzel's life becomes filled with adventure when she leaves her tower and sees the world.
Tangled was a breath of fresh air, and yet nostalgic of the classic Disney films at the same time. In many ways, it was a classic Disney Princess fairytale with a few fun twists thrown in. I think half the reason why so many people liked it is because it’s a callback to those princess movies, full of singing, epic adventures, and beautiful visuals.
There are seven standards Disney must hold itself to: Origin/storyline, Disney Princess, Disney Relationship, Disney Villain, Disney Music, Disney Settings and the Side characters that add color to the story. Does Tangled hold itself up to those same standards, particularly being among the most expensive films Disney made?
Tangled features Rapunzel. Rapunzel is a secluded Princess who grew up in a tower after being kidnapped by a woman she was forced to call Mother her entire life. In fact, it is because of Rapunzel that the audience refers to the villain of the movie not as Gothel, but Mother Gothel.
Released last November, “Tangled” has made more than half a billion dollars in global revenue and already ranks as the second highest-grossing film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, behind the blockbuster “The Lion King.”
Never take the little things for granted.
Singing high inside this tower, she is symbolic of an angel in heaven. Rapunzel, her “beautiful long hair, as fine as spun gold,” representing the halo of an angel, can be likened to an angel singing the praises of God “…for it is good to sing praises unto our God…” (Psalm 147: 1).
It's a frightening promise for anyone to make, but Rapunzel is resolute in this and we know why. This is the power of love. To sacrifice your own happiness to save someone who's life means so much to you. She was already a woman of strength before, but the love she has for Eugene makes her stronger and braver.

Mothers tend to warn their daughters to save themselves for the one they love and warn them of those that will just use them until they get what they want, i.e. sex. Third, there is the fact that in the original Grimm version of this story, Rapunzel does give her prince her virginity, leading to a teen pregnancy.
Personality. Rapunzel is a spirited, smart, clever, kind, playful, and a very adventurous girl in her late teens, though a bit naive. However, she is not afraid to stand up for herself or others when the situation calls for bravery.
It's funny and introduces us to Flynn really well, but also provides some beautiful animation and a legendlike backstory that makes the film feel even more like an old fairy tale.
Rapunzel herself learns through her dreaming—and Flynn—that he can accomplish her own dreams and also that it's okay to set new dreams. Rapunzel is an optimist with a big heart full of dreams.
Dreams may be silly or impossible or weird, but they are what drive us as people. Rapunzel's dream was to see the floating lanterns, and she got that. If you are dedicated to making your dream come true, and you have a great support system, it will come true in its own time.
If you have a desire to do something, go do it. Rapunzel wanted to leave her tower and see the lanterns, and that's exactly what she did. Even if other people don't agree with your choices or decisions, keep moving forward with them, and you'll end up successful.
Sometimes the best friendships flourish out of a dislike for someone. Maximus and Flynn hate each other for most of the movie, until they have to work together to help their mutual friend. You can't truly know someone till you spend lots of time with them, and giving people multiple chances will allow for friendships to bloom that may have not bloomed originally.
Well, there’s a reason behind that. Making Tangled cost Disney over $260 million. That makes it one of Disney’s most expensive films, right behind Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End.
The floating lantern scene is probably one of the most iconic scenes in Tangled, if not all of Disney. It’s a gorgeous scene that leaves you sitting there with your jaw open as you take in the sights. If there is a festival anything like what we see in Tangled, I want to go to it.
Apparently, Eugene is 26, while Rapunzel just turned 18. That’s an eight-year gap, making it the biggest age gap of all the Disney couples. It is slightly creepy if you think about it, that Eugene is quite a bit older than Rapunzel. But at least they didn’t get married right away.
The whole concept of Mother Gothel manipulating Rapunzel to stay in the tower and essentially being emotionally abusive to her is pretty strange. And then there’s the scene where Eugene gets hurt (I’m kind of surprised that happened in a Disney movie; they usually don’t go for direct stuff like that.)
Well, it’s been in the making for decades. No seriously, Disney had been thinking about doing a movie based on the Rapunzel fairy tale since 1937. It was one of the original movies considered post the Snow White craze. It was ultimately rejected, but it stayed on the back burner for the next few decades.
Since the beginning, Disney has taken inspiration from the real world, whether it’s studying animals to see how they move, to taking inspiration from real locations. (Did you know that when they did The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Disney had the staff travel to Paris in order to study the cathedral?) In the case of the kingdom Corona, it also has a real-world inspiration.

I don’t believe this story was meant to be an allegory of the Christian faith. However, there are some clear parallels we can discover.
We are held captive by sin (which we can compare to Mother Gothel) which lies to us and keeps us from learning the truth about God and about ourselves. Sin desperately wants us to stay ignorant of the fact that we are children of the King (God).
Tangled is based off the fairy tale by Brothers Grimm called Rapunzel. In fact, Rapunzel was the movie’s original name before it was changed to appeal to a more widespread audience besides girls. Tangled did a very different spin on the original material than most Disney films. The original story starts out with an pregnant woman who longs for a plant. The man steals it from a garden belonging to a witch named who proceeds to take the child away at birth. The child grows her hair long and golden and is locked away in a tower with no means of escape but a single window from which she lets her hair down for the witch to climb up upon the utterance of the words ‘Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair, so I may climb the golden stair.’
They kept the concept of the flower but gave it powers of youth by a single drop of sunshine from the heavens. Gothel hoards the flower and when it is taken to heal the ailing Queen, Gothel kidnaps the child who inherits the sunshine, hence why her hair is golden.
The relationship between Rapunzel and Flynn is perhaps one of the most developed relationships Disney has to offer and worthy of the Renaissance era. Snow White fell in love at first sight, so did Cinderella (not to mention that marriage was also out of convenience), Aurora fell in love in a dream and Ariel fell in love with Eric because he is a human. It was not till the nineties when the relationship started being built with Jasmine slowly growing to love Aladdin (though it took a lie to do it), Belle found love for a monster, John Smith fell in love with Pocahontas at first sight though he had to grow on her, and Tiana and Nevine were built up and realized over time.
Once again, Disney has done it. Tangled is no failure by any means. In fact, it passed with all seven standards. All seven aspects Disney is known for were met by this movie. It may well be a mistake when people claim Frozen is the best since the Disney Renaissance thanks primarily to Let it Go, especially when the latter movie failed with a couple of its standards. Tangled took them all and with such a talented Disney Princess, a dancing Kingdom, and a memorable band of thugs, Tangled is indeed a brilliant movie and has earned its place among Disney’s classics.

After asking her mother if she can go outside, Rapunzel feels trapped. When Flynn Ryder shows up in her tower, Rapunzel sees the opportunity presented, and takes advantage of it. He agrees to take her to see the floating lights, and then return her home.
As a child, Rapunzel was kidnapped from her home in the castle, and locked int the tower so that her "mother" can use the healing powers of her magic hair. Her dream is to leave her tower and see the floating lights that appear every year on her birthday.
When Mother Gothel finds Rapunzel in the forest, she tells her that she has made a mistake and will not be forgiven for it unless she turns back. Rapunzel is forced to choose between her mother and the world she has always known, and the endless possibilities of the world of the world she is still discovering.
Answer: Chameleon. When we first see Pascal, Rapunzel's chameleon, they play hide and seek and chess amongst other things. He consistently changes colors, depending on the situation. Answer: Lanterns. One of the big 'Tangled' hits was 'I See the Light', where Rapunzel really did get to see the lights in person with love interest Flynn Rider on her 18th birthday. The song signified Rapunzel's maturing and coming-of-age as well as the growing romantic attraction between her and Flynn.

Flynn Rider introduces the story with "This is the story of how I died. Don't worry, this is actually a very fun story and the truth is, it isn't even mine. This is the story of a girl named Rapunzel.". We get this impression when we see Flynn's wanted picture on the tree during the introduction scene.
