Every “F” will drag down your GPA, and shows a lack of interest in/dedication to your schoolwork. If there’s an “F” on your transcripts, it had better be in the first semester of your freshman year. The trend in all your grades should be either consistently high, or trending upwards.

I agree with Tom Au. The one F you have will very likely not make much difference. Also, strong reference letters and high GRE scores can reduce the impact significantly. When you apply for admission to a graduate program at a university, you could also try contacting a few faculty members to express your interest in working with them.

Oct 01, 2012 · Most places don't ask for transcripts. But in the off chance they do, you can have a backup story to cover your ass. Hopefully your "F" was during freshman year or something. Just make sure your story doesnt involve you making excuses or dodging blame. Aside from that, my best advice is to avoid exposing it in the first place at all cost!

On your transcript, it should say that you retook the class. The A will NOT conceal the F. The F will still show but it will also show you received an A for retaking the class.
The F grade usually remains on the record but the new grade replaces the old in the overall GPA, or both of your scores are counted. In either case, the GPA improves and, if a required course, you have taken care of the requirement.May 10, 2019
