Log into Canvas and navigate to the administrative account containing your outcomes set. In the account navigation menu, click Rubrics. Create a new rubric and give it a meaningful name (such as "Undergraduate Spanish Outcomes").
By default, new outcomes are set to the Decaying Average calculation method in the Canvas interface. Click the Save button [3]. You can set one of four calculation methods: Decaying Average, n Number of Times, Most Recent Score, and Highest Score.
Canvas outcomes make use of the academic hierarchy of accounts in Canvas, a branching organizational structure representing the university, its campuses, and their respective schools, colleges, and departments (see figure below). Level 1: At the top of the hierarchy is Indiana University.

Return to Canvas and navigate to the Outcomes tool in your unit's account. Click Import. Then use drag and drop or browse to upload the CSV file into the Outcomes tool.
Click the Run Report button to generate the report. Individual Outcome Analytics can be viewed by clicking the Outcomes link on the navigation menu, then selecting the Outcome. Select the Outcome Folder, then click the Outcome Name to view the analytics.
You can allow students to see their outcomes within the Student Learning Mastery Gradebook.
The outcomes tool in Canvas allows instructors to add the course outcomes to the course. The outcomes can then be attached to rubrics that are attached to assignments. The outcomes will also display in the Mastery Learning Gradebook which allows instructors and students to track student mastery over content.
To add a rubric go to a quiz or discussion click the gear icon and select Add Rubric. It is important to note that in quizzes and discussions students will also need to click the gear icon to view the rubric. In the description be sure to give students directions on how to view the rubric. A new rubric will appear.

Grading student work automatically collects and compiles data on student progress for the Outcomes.
If a user imports an outcome but does not have permission to modify the calculation method, the calculation method cannot be changed. Common Core outcomes are always calculated as Highest Score; however, the calculation method can be modified using the Outcomes API by any user with appropriate admin permissions.

If this box is left unchecked, the point value of the Outcome will not be applied to the assignment's score, but it will still be saved as Outcomes data.

When creating outcomes, it's always best to place them in the account at the highest level to which they apply.
The "Aligned Items and Outcomes Artifacts" screen shows all the rubrics, assignments, and quizzes that have been aligned with a specific learning outcome. Appearing beneath the aligned items is a list of outcomes artifacts submitted by students and scored by instructors or evaluator. Hyperlinks in this report take the user directly to rubrics, assignments, and submissions aligned with the selected outcome. To access this screen, locate the desired course or account-level outcome in the Outcomes tool and click the title of the outcome. The Outcomes Export is a CSV file that lists the outcomes and outcomes groups in the account where the report is run. This report conforms to the Outcomes Import Format and is especially useful for editing large outcomes sets in Microsoft Excel and importing the changes back into Canvas.
