How much does it cost to join Olli Tucson?

Annual 2022-2023 All OLLI / Central Tucson Memberships are available for $375. This is the only membership that gives access to in-person classes at Central Tucson Campus along with everything OLLI-UA has to offer. Set it and forget it, you have it all and you support OLLI-UA to the fullest.

What is an OLLI course?

Courses change each term, and include both academic subjects and lighter fare that employ a variety of teaching approaches. Courses can range from two to ten weekly sessions that are generally 90 minutes to three hours in duration. Faculty: Knowledgeable instructors from within OLLI and the community volunteer their time and expertise.

Do I have to be a member to teach at Olli-UA?

Although many study groups are led by members, OLLI-UA membership is not required to teach at OLLI-UA. Class formats are flexible. You can teach anything from a single session to a full 12-week lecture and discussion curriculum. All of our Study Group Leaders (SGLs) volunteer their time and there is no monetary payment.

Who is the Director of Olli?

Anyone who teaches for OLLI at UNT will receive a letter of appreciation from our Director, Dr. Stephanie Reinke. For current UNT professors, staff members, or graduate students, the letter will also be sent to their corresponding Dean and Chair.

Can you teach for OLLI at UNT?

You can teach in your area of academic expertise, or you can offer courses in subjects of personal interest to you. Teaching for OLLI at UNT is done on a volunteer basis.

What is the most rewarding thing about teaching for OLLI?

Many instructors have shared that teaching for OLLI has been some of the most rewarding teaching experiences of their lives. OLLI learners are intelligent, vibrant, and engaged. They bring to the classroom a wisdom, maturity, and depth of experience that is difficult to find in younger learners. Many instructors also cherish the opportunity to teach without worrying about grades, homework, and tests.

How long does it take to complete the feedback form for Olli?

Following the completion of the course, participants will be emailed an online course feedback form. Participants are given one week to complete the feedback form. OLLI’s staff reviews all the forms and will provide a summary report of the feedback to you at the end of the semester. In addition, feedback is shared with curriculum committee to assist with planning for future semesters.

What happens if Olli is closed?

In case of inclement weather, OLLI follows the State College Area School District (SCASD) closures. If SCASD announces a full day closure, all OLLI courses that day are cancelled. If SCASD announces a two-hour delay, OLLI courses will be held. If an early dismissal due to weather is announced, OLLI afternoon courses are cancelled.

What is a volunteer instructor?

Volunteer instructors are responsible for developing their own course content.

Does OLLI charge tuition?

Many OLLI courses charge fees beyond tuition to cover the cost of materials. These additional fees need to be described in the Course Proposal Form and catalog. If you will be providing materials for which you will be receiving a reimbursement, the amount that you list in the catalog (in excess of OLLI’s tuition cost) will be reimbursed to you at the conclusion of the semester, following Penn State guidelines.

Can I bring a laptop to OLLI?

If bringing a laptop, please contact the OLLI office to ensure we have the correct equipment to connect to the classroom presentation system.
