The course prefix is a three-letter designator for a major division of an academic discipline, subject matter area or subcategory of knowledge. The prefix is not intended to identify the department in which a course is offered. Rather, the content of a course determines the assigned prefix to identify the course.
Equivalent courses at different institutions are identified by the same prefixes and the same last three digits of the course number and are guaranteed to be transferable between participating institutions that offer the course , with a few exceptions, as listed below in Exceptions to the General Rule for Equivalency.
This numbering system is used by all public postsecondary institutions in Florida and 27 participating non-public institutions. The major purpose of this system is to facilitate the transfer of courses between participating institutions. Students and administrators can use the online SCNS to obtain course descriptions and specific information about course transfer between participating Florida institutions.
Since the initial implementation of the SCNS, specific disciplines or types of courses have been excepted from the guarantee of transfer for equivalent courses. These include courses that must be evaluated individually or courses in which the student must be evaluated for mastery of skill and technique.
The SCNS makes available on its home page (in the Latest News box) a report entitled Courses at Non-regionally Accredited Institutions that contains a comprehensive listing of all non-public institution courses in the SCNS inventory, as well as each course’s transfer level and transfer effective date.
To graduate, you must complete courses that involve substantial writing for a total of 24,000 words. Courses approved to meet this requirement will be in one of three categories: 1 Coursework with at least 2000 words 2 Coursework with at least 4000 words 3 Coursework with at least 6000 words
Most courses do not have designated meeting times. However some courses, such as some language courses, do require students to meet online during specific times. If the “Period” column is blank, then no meeting time has been specificed for the course.
First Three Weeks of Advance Registration 1 Review the Schedule of Courses to choose the courses you want, including backups. 2 Log on to ONE.UF (if you need assistance, call the help desk at (352) 392-HELP). 3 Take care of any Registration Holds. 4 Create your schedule in ONE.UF. 5 Print a copy of your schedule each time you register.
During online drop/add, priority is given to the students who have not registered for a full course load in the given term, regardless of class standing or credit hours earned toward their degrees. Students are allowed only one registration session per start time during daytime hours and will be automatically assigned a new time at the end of each registration session (once the student logs off) later that evening. Students can access the ONE.UF registration system repeatedly from approximately 10:00pm to close of the system every night except the final night of drop/add. Students may not access ONE.UF registration prior to their assigned start time.
Variable credit courses require you to enter the number of credits in a two-digit format; three credits would be entered as 03. If you register for an incorrect number of credits, you must drop the course and add it again with the correct credits.
Registration typically closes the Wednesday after commencement for end-of-term processing each term , and reopens the next business day. Students must be registered for at least one credit by 5:00pm on the last business day before online drop/add begins to avoid the $100 late registration fee.
Plan your course selections in advance. If you exceed the time limits, the system will disconnect. If you time out, previously confirmed drops and adds will be retained, but unsaved requests will be lost and you will have to log on again.
Tuition for many courses offered through UF Online can be covered by the Employee Education Program (EEP) or the State Employee Tuition Waiver program if you are eligible for those programs.
UF CJC Online graduate programs allow working professionals to earn an advanced degree from the convenience of home. Students benefit from the full resources, academic rigor and faculty of a top public university without having to relocate or leave their current jobs. All lectures, assignments, discussions, and projects are hosted through our online E-Learning system, which means students are not required to step foot on campus. Although it’s not required, students are welcome to attend commencement and walk across the stage upon completion of their master’s program.
UF CJC Online courses are offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters and follow the UF Academic Calendar. The Fall and Spring semesters are 16 weeks in length and the Summer semester is 13 weeks in length. Each weekly module features either a live or pre-recorded lecture, learning objectives, reading resources and assignments. For courses with live lectures, you will meet in an online classroom using Zoom video conferencing. Live lectures are hosted in the evening to accommodate working professionals. If you are unable to attend live lectures, the instructor will work with you to ensure you’re able to participate in some way.
Capstone Experience. The capstone is the final course in the master’s degree program. The capstone experience allows students to use all of the skills they’ve learned throughout their graduate study and apply those competencies to a real-world communication issue.
A certificate program can be completed in as few as two semesters. A master’s degree program usually requires two years to complete depending on the number of courses a student enrolls in each semester and the total number of credit hours required for the specialization.
GRE. The GRE is not required for master’s programs at the University of Florida. It is required for admission to the CJC Ph.D. program. If you have already taken the GRE, you may still submit your GRE scores for consideration through the application portal.
This is an excellent opportunity to review your personal goals and help you decide the optimal workload for your schedule. You will then submit a registration survey indicating your preferred courseload for the upcoming semester.
Graduate Certificates and Master’s Degrees. A graduate certificate is a shorter term of study where students complete four courses or 12 to 14 credit hours in a communication specialization of their choice.
