So it’s worth taking some time to familiarize yourself with what data is available and the key stats to look at. When you download your Facebook Insights data, you’ll get access to hundreds of stats for your page. Sorting through this information can be overwhelming at first; however, if you start with a small portion and check it regularly, you’ll find the files and their data easier to digest over time.
The Promotions tab gives you a quick overview of your recent promotions. It’s a great place for you to check your recent promotions while you are in your Facebook Insights. Alternatively, you can use the Facebook Ads Manager, which might be more comprehensive.
To download Facebook Insights for your page, go to your Facebook Page Manager on desktop and click Insights. On the Overview tab, click the Export Data link. Go to the Overview tab to export your Facebook Insights data. You’ll then see a pop-up box with three data types to choose from: Page Data, Post Data, and Video Data.
The final Facebook Insights file you can download is your Video Data file. Similar to Post Data, you need to choose a layout for your download. When you export your Facebook Video Data file, you need to choose which layout to download.
Every file you download from Facebook has a Key Metrics tab. Start with the Key Metrics tab because it summarizes the main metrics for your page. If you want more detail on any particular metric, click any of the other tabs to access additional sheets. The Page Data file provides insights about your Facebook audience.
You can also select different layouts for the file, which will affect the versions of data and analytics that are downloaded. Your layout options differ depending on which data type you choose. You can change the date range for the Facebook Insights data you’re downloading.

Other areas are a bit lacking but read on to find out exactly which sections of the new Facebook Insights you need to pay attention to, and which sections you can ignore.

That’s great information for when you want to run a Facebook Ad and you also probably want to make sure you are catering to your audience demographics in the types of posts you provide.
Goals include engagement (comments, likes, shares), website clicks and traffic, email, sales and others.
Click on Posts ( also under Insights) to check your engagement rate. This is one of the most important stats to monitor. To get an idea of what posts get the most likes, comments and shares, go to the Posts tab under Insights. With basic Insights, you can get a fairly good idea of what articles get the most engagement.
You can mark if something is from your website or from a third party. You may also mark what type of post it is: image, video, humor, quote, how – to, etc. Now you have a comprehensive list of traffic generators, as well as what types of posts get a lot of link clicks. Sort by whatever is important to you.
