Certifications are very similar to programs, as both of these facilitate the creation of a pathway for learning by acting as a container for a set of courses. However, unlike programs, certifications are only valid for a certain amount of time, after which they will prompt the learner to re-certify. This is useful for skills that need to be updated, or where you may need to demonstrate compliance with changing policies, practices, or regulations.

Program content can include any set of courses or competencies within a Totara Learn site . Sets can be created from adding courses, selecting a predefined competency or setting up a single course with a recurrence. Adding sets of courses or competencies creates the learning path of the program.
Totara program management supports the creation of adaptive learning paths, where completion dependencies can be defined and the order and flow of the competencies and courses learners complete can be controlled.
Once multiple sets have been created, set dividers are employed to allow the creation of sequences or dependencies between each set. Once the learning path has been finished, the learner has completed the program.
A program can only have one recurring course and no other courses or competencies can be added. Select Recurring course from the Add a new dropdown menu and click Add. Browse through the course categories or Search for a specific course. Click on the name of the course to be added.

A lesson is an activity that uses a series of pages to present the learner with information and questions. You can create a simple lesson like a slideshow, where the learner navigates through a series of pages or a branching lesson. A branching lesson allows you to present information in a non-linear way, where the learner is presented with a series of decisions that determine their path through the lesson. The learner’s answers are scored and feedback provided.
A course is a single page broken into sections by topics or weeks with links to the activities and resources that the learner will access.
