Changing Your Course Name and Course Number in Canvas
If so, now you can create a nickname for each of your courses so that you can more easily and conveniently find the course you want to see in Canvas. First, go to Dashboard in the left navigation. If you currently have your Dashboard set to display in list view, switch to icon view by toggling the switch to the left.

Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type.
The course code is a short name for the course and is displayed at the top of the Course Navigation menu and in course cards in the dashboard.
Course names and codes may be generated by your institution's student information system (SIS). If these fields are not editable, you cannot change the course name or code. The course code is also known as the reference code or short name.
The Card View Dashboard displays course cards for all your favorite courses. Course Cards can help you organize your courses by adding a nickname or customizing the color, which is synced with the color shown for the course in the Calendar.
If one of your courses includes a long or confusing name, you can create a nickname for your course.
Course Cards can help you organize your courses by customizing the color, which is synced with the color shown for the course in the Calendar. To change the color, click the card Settings icon [1], then select a new color. The check mark indicates the selected color [2], and the hex color code displays in the text field [3].
You can also move a course card to another location in the Dashboard or remove a card from the Dashboard. Click the Options menu [1] and select the Move tab [2]. Depending on the placement of the existing card, you can move the card to the top of the Dashboard, ahead or behind a specific card, or to the bottom of the Dashboard [3].
