Columbia College students may take a maximum of four courses for credit in the professional schools at Columbia University listed below, with permission.
five classesA: Typically, students take five classes per semester (15-18 points). At a minimum, you must register for 12 points per semester, and the maximum number of credits per semester is 18 for CC and 21 for SEAS.
Columbia College policy allows traditional students to enroll for a full-time course load of up to 18 semester hours of credit in any one semester.

Dual Enrollment at Columbia College. Earn college credit for Columbia College by taking classes while you're still in high school. Dual Enrollment (DE) allows you to enroll in Columbia College classes and start earning college credit. This academic credit can be applied toward a college degree.
A double major is defined as a single degree with two majors (both majors must be offered within a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree). You cannot mix degrees in a double major. A double major may be earned if requirements for both declared majors are completed.

Columbia College accepts credit from successfully completed International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework. Course equivalencies and transfer credit awards vary by subject and International Baccalaureate course level (standard/higher).
High school students (freshman through senior) have the opportunity to take college courses for credit while completing high school. Dual enrollment means that high school students are enrolled in high school and college courses concurrently; the college level courses are taken through Columbia College.

The academics at Columbia are challenging, but definitely doable. Classes are generally graded on a curve, and sometimes curves are very generous. What it all comes down to, however, is hard-work; even the brightest must study in order to maintain a good standing.
Performances. Columbia students may obtain free tickets to performances at Carnegie Hall, The Metropolitan Opera, and the New York Philharmonic. Tickets are first-come, first-served, and are announced exclusively through the Arts Initiative email newsletter.
While students generally register for 15 credits per term, full-time residence at the Business School is strictly defined as a minimum of 12 credits.
The curriculum consists of 18 credits of required core coursework, and a minimum of 42 credits of elective courses. No transfer credits from other institutions may be applied toward the MBA degree.
Students are permitted to take up to 18 credits per term, and may graduate with more than 60 credits . A failed core course must be repeated; a failed elective must either be repeated or replaced by another. Requirements differ for dual degree programs.

In addition to the undergraduate divisions, there are 16 graduate/professional divisions within (or affiliated with) Columbia University ( full list here ). CC/SEAS Visiting & Exchange Students may have the opportunity to enroll in some of these courses. Interested students should contact their Advising Dean for specific enrollment procedures.
Non-SIPA students are permitted to register for a maximum of 9 credits per semester. Undergraduates must receive instructor permission to register in "open" courses at the 6000 level and above. Find registration request form and a list of available and restricted classes HERE.
Cross registration in the School of Journalism is primarily available to graduate students (with top priority given to IMC SIPA students).
