The basic skills that you’ll need to learn to place out of at least one remedial course are the topics you would see in a traditional Pre-Algebra course. The ALEKS PPL (Placement, Preparation, and Learning) is the test used by many colleges to determine which course you’ll be placed into. Depending on the results of your test, you could be placed into any course all the way up to Calculus.
The ALEKS PPL takes about an hour to complete and is composed of approximately 30 questions.
If you plan to major in a STEM related field, you will most likely be required to take College Algebra. However, you may be required to take it even if you aren’t in a STEM related field.
