Admission to WMU is determined on an individual basis. Applications are reviewed using a combination of these key factors: The average WMU freshman has a 3.4 cumulative high school GPA on a 4-point scale with a composite score of 23 on the ACT or an 1090 on the SAT.
During their senior year of their undergraduate careers, students in the accelerated program may take up to 12 credit hours of graduate course work which also counts in their credits toward their undergraduate degree.
12 credit hoursTo be considered full-time, a student must be enrolled in 12 credit hours as determined at the time of census. Half-time enrollment is at least six credit hours. During summer sessions, full-time enrollment is at least six credit hours and half-time is at least three credit hours.

A WMU Accelerated Graduate Degree Program allows students to double count up to 12 credit hours of graduate course work toward their undergraduate degree and graduate degree. It is important for students to work closely with their college advisor as soon as they have an interest in an accelerated program.

The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) course is required to comply with requirements from national funding age ncies and ensures that all graduate students at WMU are working to the highest possible standards of integrity. All new master’s and doctoral graduate students must complete the RCR course.
Graduate students are automatically enrolled in the course and will receive an introductory email, sent to their WMU email address. There is no fee for the course, and no credit hours are earned. This is a university-wide requirement and is not associated directly with any specific graduate program.
A student may withdraw from the accelerated M.A. program by informing the graduate program director in the Department of Sociology in writing. A copy of the request to withdraw must also be submitted to the registrar's office.
