It is okay to sign up for a class that is offered as Pass/No Pass only. If you do not clear Academic Probation by the end of the next semester (i.e. Fall or Spring) of enrollment, you may be required to take a break from UC Berkeley and earn specific grades elsewhere before returning. The Pass/No Pass grade option replaces the Letter grade earned in a course and does not factor into your GPA. Additionally, certain scholarships may require that students maintain a minimum GPA threshold, which Pass/No Pass courses may not help with, since Pass/No Pass grades do not factor into your GPA.
If you earned a NP, you can take your repeat for P/NP or letter grade if both grading options are available. If you have repeated fewer than 12 units, the grade from the second attempt of the course will go into your GPA and the grade from first attempt will come out, regardless of which grade is higher.

When taken with the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading option, a student must earn a grade of B- or better to be considered passing. No more than one-third of your total course work prior to advancement to candidacy can be taken with the S/U grading option.

Dismissal is meant to allow students time to find direction, overcome struggles, and demonstrate they are ready to return by aiming to earn grades at an institution that does not impact the UC Berkeley GPA.
It is important to identify your own academic challenges and come up with a plan before moving forward.
Prerequisites: A prerequisite is a course or equivalent that you must have completed prior to enrolling in a particular class. For example, calculus I or an equivalent exam is a prerequisite for enrolling in calculus II. Reading & Composition (R&C): Reading and Composition is a two semester lower division requirement.
Elective coursework: Electives are classes you can choose to take towards your major. Usually a major requires a certain number of elective units and you will have a list of classes to select those units from. Students often use their elective coursework to pursue a specific area of emphasis within a major.
Enrichment courses: General interest courses that introduce students to a range of topics. Dual Enrollment (also referred to as concurrent enrollment more generally) is when a Rausser College student is simultaneously enrolled at UC Berkeley and another institution during the Fall or Spring terms .#N#Rausser College students may not enroll simultaneously at UC Berkeley and in another institution, except during the summer. If you can demonstrate unusual circumstances that may require concurrent enrollment, reach out to your advisor and submit a Dual Enrollment request here before enrolling in the other institution. Incoming freshmen and transfer students are not allowed to apply for dual enrollment in their first semester. Students approved for concurrent enrollment during regular semesters must also remain enrolled in a minimum of 12 units on campus.

You may want to consider repeating a course if you received a deficient (NP, F, D−, D, or D+) grade in it. A grade of C- or better is required in all classes that fulfill a major requirement. There are some limitations on this measure:
UC Berkeley Extension courses with numbers below 200 and preceded by an XB (such as XB132) are equivalent to courses offered at UC Berkeley. They satisfy the same requirements and the credit is counted as equal to the same course taken at Berkeley. UC Extension courses with numbers below 200 preceded by an X alone may be considered for the fulfillment of requirements on a case-by-case basis. Check with your undergraduate advisor before enrolling in such a course.
A grade of P corresponds to a C− or better. A C- or better is the minimum grade to pass a class for your major at Rausser. P/NP grades are not calculated into your cumulative GPA. All classes for your major must be taken for a letter grade.
You will not be allowed to late drop or change the grading option for a course in which you have been found responsible of a student conduct violation. If the Dean grants a late drop or grade change and you are later found guilty of a violation, the course and grading will be reinstated to your record.
Incomplete Grades. Should circumstances beyond your control prevent you from being able to finish your work in a course, a grade of Incomplete may be assigned by the instructor. Your work in the class up to that point must be of passing quality (at least of a C average) in order to receive an I grade.
