If you cannot see your students’ course totals, you have likely switched your Grader Report view. There are actually three possible views that you can choose for the ‘Grader Report’ in the gradebook in Moodle. ‘Full view’ – everything in the gradebook is displayed.
If students are reporting that they cannot see grades for your course at all, then your course settings may be set to prevent students from viewing grades. See Control Gradebook Visibility for Students in Moodle.
Instructors can control the visibility of individual grade items by adjusting settings on the Categories and Items page of the gradebook. From here, you can also show or hide category totals and the course total. See Control Visibility of Grade Items in Moodle, or Grade Category Options in the Moodle Gradebook.
Note: Even if the Gradebook is hidden from students, students can still view grades for individual assignments by opening the activity and reviewing their submission. To learn how to hide and show grades for a particular activity, see Control Visibility of Grade Items in Moodle.
If students report that they can see individual grade items but cannot see a category total or the course total grade (and you have confirmed that the totals are set to visible on the Categories and Items page), then it is because the calculation for the totals involved certain grade items that are hidden from students.
If students are reporting that they cannot see grades for your course at all, then your course settings may be set to prevent students from viewing grades (see Control Gradebook Visibility for Students in Moodle).
On the Course Management panel, under Course Settings, select Edit course settings. Under the Appearance heading, from the Show gradebook to students drop-down menu, select Yes or No. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save and display.
The grade item's color will be dimmed to indicate the item is now hidden. When you are ready to show the grades for this grade item to students, navigate back to the Gradebook setup page and locate the grade item you want to show. Under the Actions column, click Edit, and from the drop-down menu, select Show.
View Your Grades Log into Moodle and open the course. On the course homepage, in the Navigation tray toggle (hamburger menu , top left) click Grades. The User report page opens to show all graded activities where your grades have been released, as well as feedback from your instructor (if any).
The two central ideas of grading are: Grades are scores given to students(or other Roles) in a Moodle course. The Grades link (or gradebook) in the Course administration menu shows the scores given by each activity. Modules push their scores to grades, but the gradebook doesn't push anything back to the modules.
This will bring you to the course settings page where you just need to Scroll Down to Activity Completion and under Enable Activity Click No. After doing this, scroll down and Click Save and Display.
All the grades for each student in a course can be found in the course gradebook, or 'Grader report' in Settings > Course administration > Grades.
Locate the row that contains the title of the category. In the Actions column (at right), select Edit. The Edit settings menu will open. Note: The Edit category settings for the course total can be found in the top row of the Gradebook setup table.

We've been having some major disasters with Moodle lately. We seem to have fixed most of them, but this one has got everyone stumped.
Do you mean that they do not see a link "Grades" in Administration block?
Hi, I have the same problem as Fiona, I have checked your points 1 and tried 2 but there is no Set Preferences option under Administration > Grades in the course, so I cannot check the Display Weighted Grades etc.
Had a look at the Catergories and Course Total and sure enough one was hidden, once that was open the students could see their grades.
Sorry, but I was talking about "Administration" block inside the course itself, not "Site Administration" for the admins.
I checked in a few courses and all the grade settings are as they should be.
Yes, this interface is very limited, you should have much more options there.
Grades may be displayed as as actual grades, as percentages (in reference to the minimum and maximum grades) or as letters.
On re-enrolling, you can recover their grades from before: see Recover grades on re-enrol
To see the option for Advanced grading, you first have to create an assignment and choose Advanced grading/Rubric from the gGading method dropdown. Advanced grading will then appear in Settings>Assignment administration.
Each category has an aggregation type, which can be changed through that category's "edit" page. To access that page, you must use one of 2 ways:
There is no programmatic limit, but there are practical limits. Very deeply nested structures are difficult to manage. 3 levels of categories should be sufficient for most situations. Note that there is always at least one level of categories, since the Course category always encompasses all other categories and grade items, can cannot be deleted.
You can create a grade item manually in the gradebook. You will have to grade your students through the Grader report interface (in editing mode).
A weight (also called coefficient) only has meaning in reference to other weights. If you only have one grade item, changing its weight will not have any effect. However, if you have two grade items, each with a different weight, the "heavier" item will have more influence on the total grade than the "lighter" one.
Manually hide grades and feedback 1 To get to the Grader Report go to your Moodle course front page and in its Settings click Grades; the Grader Report displays. 2 Turn editing on; further settings and controls display. 3 Note that columns correspond to activities, and each column has Controls (just below the column title) which act on that entire activity. 4 To hide grades and feedback for an assignment, find its column and click the Show/Hide icon in the Controls row. 5 In this case there is no need to Save - the effects are immediate.

Automatically hide grades and feedback until a set date. This is useful if you have agreed a fixed date to reveal marks and feedback to students. It saves you needing to remember to do this manually (though you can manually change the date if you need to).
