The Crooked Cat opened in 1999 and the same trio designed that course too. Both courses feature plenty of rare Floridian elevation change and both can be stretched out beyond 7,200 yards from the tips.
I consider Orange County National to be my home course. It's a public facility and has no membership option, though they offer the LYNX program to locals annually for deep discounted rounds. The two championship 18 hole courses, Panther Lake & Cooked Cat, are remarkable runs.

Flags were tucked, the rough was long and the greens were rolling extremely fast. Though we didn't play from the 7,350-yard championship tees, Panther Lake, designed by Phil Ritson and David Harman, with help from Isao Aoki, was plenty challenging from the 6,800-yard tees.

Although most people prefer the Panther Lake course, I definitely prefer Crooked Cat. The front nine is a ton of fun and has great variety. The ninth is an awesome cape hole that provides for cool opportunities to drive the green during Q school. Crooked Cat is definitely the more playable of the two loops as well.
Even though Panther Lake is considered the "championship" course at Orange County, I definitely prefer Crooked Cat. Panther is definitely harder due to the fact that its more of a typical Florida course with homesites and ponds bordering fairways.
