The range is populated by several dozen bays, which you and your group can rent by the hour. Each bay is essentially a private driving range tee with a waitstaff. Six can play at a time, all ages. Honestly, it feels like going to a golf version of a bowling alley. What skill level does this require?
There are both matted and grassed hitting areas for you to work on your swing. The range is 300 yards long, allowing you to push your practice further. In addition to the driving range, Deer Ridge also has a practice green for you to refine your game beyond the tee box. View Prices.
It is the only privately owned golf course in Moose Jaw. The course was originally built in 1992 as a 9 hole par 3 course. In 1993 the second 9 holes opened, completing the 18-hole course.

When Ted Pasko and I purchased Deer Ridge Golf Course in 2003 the “clubhouse” was a double wide trailer. In 2005 we made the decision to build a new structure to house the restaurant and banquet facility.
Ted retired in 2014 and after a year running the operation we realized the restaurant needed a separate identity from the golf course. In February of 2015 we reopened as the Black Dog Tavern.
Overall the time spent working here was enjoyed. gained lots of valuable knowledge and work experience. became so much better at time management and working more quickly and efficiently.
Working at Deer Ridge is definitely a treat! You get lots of hands on experience related to the Golf industry, and don't ever feel like you're left in a lurch. Good way to get familiar with a Point of Sale system, and improve your customer service/interpersonal skills. Would definitely recommend!
The managers are extremely friendly, patient, and knowledgeable in the field which creates a very comfortable atmosphere for employees. The job (turf maintenance) is physically demanding and rewarding.
Fun place to work. Unfortunately there were constant issues with pay such as hours being shorted and not given time and a half on holidays. These issues would occur almost every paycheque. It’d be a great spot to work if you didn’t have to closely monitor your hours and keep on the manager to get your full paycheque.
I learned many things about how to work with people, what to do under stressful conditions, how to order and take inventory.
A golf course is a golf course. The people are what make it a good place to work. I would recommend for a seasonal job. Management is reliable
Tommy Tompkins, owner of Waco’s Bear Ridge Golf Course since 2019, has sold the course to a group of local businessmen headed up by Gordon Swanson, owner of Gordon Swanson Construction.
Both Swanson and Tompkins declined to disclose a purchase price other than Tompkins saying, “I made a nice profit.”
