The front nine of The Witch, a course designed by Dan Maples, consists of approximately 400 acres in the midst of swamps and wetlands and is not proposed for redevelopment.
Both Cinnamon Hill and White Witch Golf Course are members of the Rose Hall family. Typically, in the “Annie's Revenge” tournament format, the courses are played once each in the three-day event. However, White Witch is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
John RollinsIt has been owned by George Robertson, Joseph Shore, the Henderson family and finally John Rollins who presently owns the property. For over thirty years, the home was owned by the country musician Johnny Cash but has since reverted back to John Rollins.
A byproduct of that growth has been an increased demand for real estate, a reality that led to the recent announcements that The Witch and Farmstead will be closing at the conclusion of the fall season. There are fairway bunkers right and left as well as a series of five bunkers going up the right side of the fairway as you climb back up from the valley towards the green situated on the right as a dogleg.
Just don’t blame the ghost of Annee Palmer which is said to roam the estate for any of those three putts.
The back 9 works its way towards the ocean on holes 10 & 11, then reverses back towards the mountain until hole 17. Noteworthy holes: Hole 10: Hole 10 is a sprawling, Cape-style par 5 that doglegs left, with sugar cane plants waiting to eat the left-miss.
White Witch was a fantastic way to see the beauty Jamaica has to offer. Set on the highest point of the sprawling Rose Hall Estate in Montego Bay, you get a glimpse of the endless views of the Caribbean Sea as soon as you step out of your car/shuttle at the clubhouse.
Interestingly, the layout is named after the “White Witch of Rose Hall,” Annee Palmer, who was an early 19th century mistress on the former sugar plantation, reputed to have practiced voodoo, abused her slaves and murdered three husbands!
