November 14, 1899Austin Country Club was founded November 14, 1899 by Lewis Hancock, a man of more than ordinary vision. In those days country clubs and golf were practically unknown and we believe it correct to state that the Austin Golf Club (later to be renamed the Austin Country Club) was the first of its kind organized in Texas.
The UT Golf Club has a 7,412-yard, par 71 championship-caliber golf course created by Bechtol Russell Golf Design. Built in the Texas Hill Country, the course overlooks Lake Austin and borders the Balcones Natural Wildlife Preserve, offering challenging shots and views that rival the best in Austin.

Bermuda grassThe design: The Pete Dye-designed course most recently underwent a renovation in 2015 and uses Bent grass for the fairways and Bermuda grass for the greens. An undulating terrain and deep bunkers are important features to the course. Austin Country Club has been around since 1899, but has had three different locations.

Anyone wishing to become a member is simply advised to contact a member of the club for information. Given its privacy, it's not surprising that precise membership fees are hard to come by. Nevertheless, the initiation fee is reportedly in the region of $100,000.
Bermuda grassDesign: The Stadium Course, which runs 7,300 yards from its tournament tees, has four par-3's and four par-5's. The par-72 track has five different sets of tees for all skill levels, and its greens and fairways are both made from Bermuda grass.
