The Go Ape Treetop Adventure course is divided into 6 sections . The first site is the training site, with one challenge and a small zipline, to help you practice using the equipment and learn about safety. The other 5 sites have about 4-5 obstacles, each ending with a thrilling Zipline!
The company was founded in 2001 by Rebecca and Tristram Mayhew, after they were inspired by a tree-top adventure course in France, and has a contract with the Forestry Commission for courses on multiple sites.
The first course opened in March 2002 in Thetford Forest, on the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk; it was the first self-belay tree top ropes course in Britain. In 2003, the company won a Best Tourist Attraction award and has also won other awards.
On 29 September 2019 Verity Bailes, from Peterborough, became the first person to complete Go Ape's Treetop Challenge at all 34 locations across the UK. There are 34 Tree Top Challenge courses in forests in England, Scotland and Wales consisting of rope ladders, zip-lines, rope bridges, trapezes and swings.
Tristram and Rebecca MayhewThe idea for Go Ape began in France in 2001 when husband and wife Tristram and Rebecca Mayhew were on holiday in the Auvergne with their six-month old baby and discovered how much fun it was swinging through the trees.

Cannock Chase is home to the longest Go Ape obstacle course, which spans 1,465 metres across five different sections. Cannock Chase is an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the top of the trees is the perfect place to soak in the magnificent scenery.
This adventure is more demanding than a regular zip line. At each of the 5 stations you need to climb up a rope ladder, which is demanding in itself. The other 'more' demanding feature is the spider web that you zip into and then need to crawl up and onto the tree stand.
The highest Go Ape course is at Glentrees and is 48 metres above ground at its highest point. Typically, Go Ape courses are about 12 metres high, but the highest Go Ape platform is 18m above ground at Go Ape in Grizedale Forest.
It is higher (9 metres at the highest point) and winds its way over the play area out into the forest to finish with an epic 100-metre-long zip wire.

How long does it take to complete the Treetop Adventure or Journey course? On average it takes between 2 and 3 hours to complete a Go Ape Treetop Adventure course. Go Ape Treetop Journey takes 1 hour. This can vary based on the size of your group and how busy a day it is at the course.
Go Ape adventures are a great full body workout, testing your muscular strength and endurance, as well as your cardiovascular fitness, balance and flexibility.

There are also Segway scooters and mountain bikes. In 2014 Go Ape! opened trampoline parks in East Kilbride, Wolverhampton and Stevenage under the name Air Space. This part of the business was sold in 2017 to Oxygen Freejumping.
A Go Ape ropes course proposal in the United States was declined after a large neighbourhood outcry in Lincoln Park.
There are 34 Tree Top Challenge courses in forests in England, Scotland and Wales consisting of rope ladders, zip-lines, rope bridges, trapezes and swings. There are also 11 Forest Segway experiences and 23 Tree Top Adventure courses, aimed at children. The course in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, near Aberfoyle in Stirling, has one of the longest zip-lines in Britain.

Go Ape has 16 locations around the United States, with some offering a Treetop Junior course! Helpful Tips: Wear closed toe shoes, dress in layers, and arrive with a little extra time to use the restroom and relax before your adventure begins. Gloves are also an excellent idea to help protect your hands.

Dalby Forest is situated on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park. The southern part of the forest is divided by a number of valleys creating a “Rigg and Dale” landscape whilst to the north the forest sits on the upland plateau. Enjoy great walks around Staindale Lake and Haygate with views over the valley. A network of forest roads including the 9-mile Dalby Forest Drive provides access to this outstanding landscape.
The course in Delamere has the second longest zip wire of any Go Ape site, stretching 200m. The facility is located adjacent to the Linmere Bridge with views of Blakemere Lake.
