HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) -- The Grand Strand said goodbye to another golf course on Thursday. After 30 years, Heather Glen Golf Links in Little River has officially closed for good. In 1987, Golf Digest named the 27-hole course the best new course in America. At its peak, nearly 60,000 rounds were played on the course each year.
Then in the early 1990s, new owners arrived and launched a renovation that has turned HeatherGlen into a showpiece among Calgary golf courses, a place where golfers of all skill levels can have a great time and a facility that aims to provide the public golfer with beautifully maintained facilities and great prices.
HeatherGlen's original 18 is made up of the Grove 9 and a mix of the best Creek and Hills holes. We have made it HeatherGlen 2.0 by completing the addition of a great Par 3 in the middle of the property as well as adding some more tee boxes to update a few holes you already love.
The 6,800-yard, par-71 course opened in 1989 and is owned and operated by D.G. Golf Management, of which Pardue is the president.
A byproduct of that growth has been an increased demand for real estate, a reality that led to the recent announcements that The Witch and Farmstead will be closing at the conclusion of the fall season. A Dan Maples design that plays through a cypress swamp, The Witch (top photo) will close November 21.
November 21Meanwhile, November 21 has been pegged as the last day in the lifespan of The Witch Golf Links, a Dan Maples design that opened in 1989.
