bought the club and assumed its debts. And now the newly renamed Blandford Country Club is preparing to open around May 1.
Stephen Delnickas, who was President of the Blandford Club, told The Republican that the new owners also agreed to take on all the debts of the old club and to run it as a golf course for at least two years.
As the new owners of Blanford CC make plans to reinvigorate the club, Amanti feels that the club, with its nine-hole golf course, might be on trend with the movement to make golf faster, more fun, less expense and less exclusive, The Republican reported. “Our motto is, ‘You always have time for nine,’” he said.
The Dunroamin Country Club in Hardwick, Mass. also closed in 2018. In 2017, the Hannoush brothers and former Springfield, Mass. City Councilor Raipher D. Pellegrino bought the Springfield Country Club in West Springfield, Mass. from its members for $1.985 million, The Republican reported.
Local investors Bob VanZandt Sr., his wife, Beth, and brothers Charlie and William Arment, owners of Charlie Arment Trucking of Springfield, Mass., bought the Wyckoff Country Club in Holyoke, Mass. earlier this year from the family of the longtime owner, the late Clarence “Clarky” E. Wojtowicz.
CRD Metalworks owner Christopher M. Duval and his wife, Roseana, bought Beaver Brook Golf Club in the Haydenville section of Williamsburg, Mass. last year, The Republican reported. At the time, they said they bought it out of fear that the land would be sold and developed, and they made renovations in hopes of attracting more folks to spend money either at the golf course or the bar and restaurant.
The formerly private, members-only Blandford club will now be open to the public, Amanti told The Republican. Plans are to add a liquor license—the club had been BYOB—and bring in a caterer to provide meals on premises. “It’s a gorgeous place,” Amanti said. “It would be a great place for a wedding on a hilltop in the Berkshires.
Blandford Country Club is surrounded by a number of towns, including Otis, East Otis, Westfield, Huntington, Russell, Tolland, Becket and Lee that are within a 30 minute drive. You can play 4, 5, 9, or 18. There are tournaments or leagues for the members but most of the time the club is open.
If you play golf three times a week over the course of a season, it will amount to less than $10 per round. Also, the non-member rates are more than reasonable. Although the course is not particularly long as a whole, there are holes that challenge driving skills, short game and putting.
At Blandford Country Club you pay one low membership fee and all your golf is included. Golf carts are available at an extra cost, which can be avoided as the course was designed for walkers and provides good exercise for the average person.
