Statement 1. All matter is composed of extremely small particles called atoms. Statement 2. Atoms of a given element are identical in size, mass, and other properties. Atoms of different elements differ in size, mass and other properties. Statement 3. Atoms cannot be subdivided, created or destroyed. Statement 4.

Drawbacks of Dalton's Atomic Theory The indivisibility of an atom was proved wrong: an atom can be further subdivided into protons, neutrons and electrons. However an atom is the smallest particle that takes part in chemical reactions. According to Dalton, the atoms of same element are similar in all respects.
Dalton's atomic theory also proposed that all atoms of an element are identical in nature and different elements vary in size, mass and chemical properties. So, correct answer is option 1 which says that first and second statements are correct. Stay updated with the General Science questions & answers with Testbook.
Limitations of Dalton's Atomic Theory It does not account for subatomic particles: Dalton's atomic theory stated that atoms were indivisible. However, the discovery of subatomic particles (such as protons, electrons, and neutrons) disproved this postulate.
1) All matter is made of atoms. Atoms are indivisible and indestructible. 2) All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties. 3) Compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different kinds of atoms.
The modern atomic theory contradicts dalton's atomic theory : Atoms are divisible into protons, neutrons, electrons. Atoms of the same element have different properties, such atoms are isotopes.
The main drawbacks of Dalton's Atomic Theory are: (i) It could explain the laws of chemical combination by mass but failed to explain the law of gaseous volumes. (ii) It could not explain why atoms of different elements have different masses, sizes, valencies, etc.
His theory contained five main propositions:All matter is comprised of tiny, definite particles called atoms.Atoms are indivisible and indestructible. All atoms of a particular element share identical properties, including weight.Atoms of different elements contain different mass.More items...
Terms in this set (5) Compounds are composed of atoms of more than 1 element. The relative number of atoms of each element in a given compound is always the same. Chemical reactions only involve the rearrangement of atoms. Atoms are not created or destroyed during chemical reactions.
