In case you don’t know who she is, she’s kind of an FNP review guru and has been helping new graduates prepare for their certification exam for decades. I have attended continuing education seminars with her and she is a wonderful, dynamic speaker – I can only imagine that her review courses are great.
Leik presents a thorough review across the lifespan in an organized concise, well written, easy to read format. She also includes nonclinical topics, such as ethical and legal issues and nursing research. Leik presents the information in a straightforward manner and uses lots of mnemonics to help you remember specific details.
I only did about 300 questions from the Leik book. It started out great because I was getting about 75% in the beginning but then toward the end my performance was going down to 62%. With only a few more days until my exam it started to freak me out because it's recommended to score around 75% on the Leik questions.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is the governing body behind the ANCC. The AANP exam is newer and was considered by many to be “easier” as evidenced by a higher passing percentage in the past, but the ANCC being older was considered by some to be the “better” exam.
Both of the examinations to become a Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) are very challenging. For example, as of 2019, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) exam's pass rate is listed at 86% for the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) exam, and 84% for the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP) exam.
The ANCC exam can have up to 200 questions that you'll have to complete in 3 to 4 hours. You'll have to answer a minimum of 150. This is another reason why some people consider this exam to be harder.

3-hourAPEA's University Predictor Exam is considered a national standardized comprehensive exit exam and can be used as a tool for student and curriculum evaluation. This is a 3-hour exam with 150 questions.
A minimum passing scaled score of 500 must be obtained to pass the examination. A candidate's performance on the examination is not compared to the performance of others taking the examination.
The AANP is rumored to be the easier of the two exams, specifically for those seeking their FNP certification since it has a 5% higher pass rate than that of the ANCC FNP exam. Using the pass rate as a basis for difficulty then you can reasonably say that the AANP exam is easier than the ANCC.
