Has anyone else seen relaxed COVID precautions despite worsening of pandemic?

I worked my first UC shift yesterday for the first time since the start of the pandemic. The nurses were swabbing patients for COVID in the rooms with surgical masks with no face shield/gown. They have no access to n95s as I understand.

New grads and seasoned NPs! What has been, or was, the biggest challenges you face/faced early on as you began your career as an NP?

Contracts?

I got my first employment contract yesterday. I’m super excited and I’m getting more in salary than I asked for relocation expenses and a sign on bonus. Is it standard to have a lawyer look over an employment contract? I think it’s all very standard.

Learning Resources

I’m disappointed to find that my current assessment textbook seems white washed. Although it’s the newest version (2019) I’m frustrated that the material for assessment is geared towards white patients. Specifically, I’m on assessment of skin. There are some blurbs mentioning how assessment may differ for BIPOC community, but rarely pictures.

Do the toxic attitudes of NPs found on Reddit translate to real life or is this just a vocal minority?

NP responses preferred please - just asking a question to future colleagues.

Anyone buying their own N95 masks?

I am just graduating from NP school, and will be teaching clinicals as I apply for NP positions. My organization's N95 masks don't fit my face, but I know from teaching clinicals previously, going in and out of so many patient's rooms, staff being busy, there is a lot of potential for inadvertent exposure, and being the last to know.
