Non-attendance is considered a withdrawal. Students who never attend a class will be assigned a ‘WN’ grade by their instructor and removed from the class. Being removed by an instructor for non-attendance is considered a withdrawal.
Students must establish a record of participation in academically related activities. Please be sure to adhere to the posted due dates for assignments in order to document the required active participation in your online course. You are responsible for full payment of all courses that are considered withdrawals.
The mission of the HCC Counseling Department is to provide holistic support for students pursuing their educational goals. In order to accomplish this mission, we will provide a full range of professional services including ADA accommodations, personal and mental health counseling , career counseling, academic skills enhancement, outreach programming, consultation, and crisis intervention.

Houston Community College Counseling Services provides time-limited, short-term counseling (approximately 3 to 5 sessions per semester) to currently enrolled students. The purpose of short-term counseling is to focus on personal issues that may prevent a student from achieving academic success. If you receive Veterans Education Benefits, you must notify the Military and Veterans Affairs Office (MVAO) prior to withdrawing/dropping. You may need to drop/withdrawal due to an active duty order.
The deadline to register or add a class is the day before the class begins. If you attempt to register for a course that has already started, you will receive a Late Registration error. You will need the instructor's permission to register after the deadline.

A Field of Study (FOS) is a selection of lower-division courses that are guaranteed by state law to transfer and apply to a degree program. If a student takes all the courses in a FOS and then transfers to another Texas public institution of higher education, the FOS is guaranteed to transfer as a block and be applied to the appropriate major.
The core curriculum is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and transferable skills that are needed for future careers and work in a technological and global society.
