It was our first full day on the Carnival Sunshine. We had stayed up late the night before ( Camp Ocean for the girls, a drink at RedFrog Pub for us), so yep, we slept in on our first sea day.
While others were relaxing in SportSquare, I was running all over the deck watching my kid being active and crushing the ropes course. When she made it to each platform, she’d look down at me with a big grin on her face and flash me a ‘thumbs up’. As a parent, it is such a thrill to see your child succeed at something so fun!
You must be at least 48 inches tall to participate in the Carnival SkyCourse.
The SportsSquare crew mentioned to me that sea days were the most challenging days to do the SkyCourse – mainly because of the windy conditions with being at sea (remember you are 150 feet above the top deck!) plus, the endless water views may make it feel as though you’re even higher off the ground.
It is these moments like these that keep us cruising again and again — there’s always a new adventure. A family adventure and that’s what’s most important to me. We can each have our own time on the ship, but the activities we do together as a family are the ones that stand out the most to us.
The Carnival Sunshine is filled with family adventures. Aren’t you ready to plan your own sailing?
When the Carnival Magic debuted in 2011, it brought the first ropes course at sea. It had over 230 feet of obstacles suspended over the Sports Square on Deck 12. The course was directly over the mini-golf area, making it especially thrilling.
Some Norwegian Cruise ships also have ropes courses (see a full list below). Norwegian’s courses are bigger than the Carnival ones, with between 40 and 100 obstacles available. In fact, the longest ropes course at seas is on the Escape.
One nice thing about ropes courses on a cruise ship is that they’re free! A ropes course on land can vary between $20 and $100 depending on the course’s length and complexity, so it’s great to have access to one for free.
You must be at least 48″ to go on the Carnival or Norwegian ropes courses. For Carnival, there is a 300 pound weight limit (275 lbs on the Carnival Vista). Closed-toe shoes are also required. It’s highly recommended you wear a t-shirt to avoid rope burn.
I’ve tried the Sky Course on the Carnival Horizon ( see the cruise blog here ), and it definitely pushed me to my limits. While it’s much shorter and less complicated than some I’ve tried on land, it has the added complexity of the ship swaying and the ocean breeze pushing you.
