The Homeland Security Training (HST) program is dedicated to ensuring that Riverside County is prepared to respond to critical incidents, public safety, education, public health, and homeland security. Experts on the HST team provide specialized courses to meet the operational training needs of the Riverside County Operational Area (OA) and surrounding counties.
Some of the courses at the Ben Clark Training Center are open to civilian, non-sworn members of the public. These courses are taught by professional law enforcement personnel and can assist the public in completing required or recommended training for weapons handling, or to familiarize citizens with self-defense tactics or law enforcement operations.
After you learn how to load the gun, we’ll cover basic shooting fundamentals. You’ll learn proper stance, breathing techniques, sight alignment, and trigger control. These are the same techniques covered by military and police shooting schools. Experienced shooters know hitting the target is more than slapping the trigger.
The benefit of receiving gun training on a one-to-one basis is the instructor is able to diagnosis any shooting errors on a more personal basis. In a group setting, the instructor observes a group of let’s say 5-8 persons. The instructor can’t observe everyone at once. Plain and simple: you’ll learn more! In addition, you determine the stress level. If you want a high stress environment, we can provide that. Some learn better in the beginning with less stress. But here’s a word of caution! Eventually-- if you want to shoot well or survive a lethal encounter, its best to turn up the stress level during training. Train to win!
More Details: The NRA Defensive Pistol course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: how to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm; basic principles of concealment; the difference between cover and concealment; drawing from the holster; levels of mental awareness; developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection; clearing common stoppages; use of pocket pistols; and more. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics Of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and the NRA Defensive Pistol certificate. This course is only conducted by NRA certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.
Short Description: This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target.
More Details: This course is at least eight hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.
One option is the traditional , instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end.
