To become a licensed home inspector in New York, you must: 1 complete a course of study of not less than 140 hours approved by the Department of State, Division of Licensing Services. Of those hours, 40 must be unpaid field-based inspections under direct supervision; or 2 have performed no fewer than 100 home inspections (paid or unpaid) under direct supervision; and 3 pass the National Home Inspector Examination.
